Knights of Columbus
Vol. 14 No. 7 January 2015 SUFFOLK CHAPTER NEWS
From the Chapter Chairmans Desk
Brothers/Sisters:
I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year. I hope we all remembered our men overseas who could not be with their families this Holiday season. I want to thank the councils that invited me for their Tree Lighting and Christmas Parties. This month, as you all know, is our Kickoff for our 2015 Charity Drive to be held at Bishop McGann Council in Bayshore on Friday, January 9, 2015. This years Direct Donation recipient is again The Sunrise Fund. I hope we all can get behind this and make this the best Charity Drive ever. The more we make the more charities we can give to. As you know we will be starting a 300 club this January with the first numbers being drawn in July 2015. This is solely for our FAC program. Also we have reactivated our Fraternal Weekend on March 6-8, 2015. Yes, yours truly has already booked his room and I hope you all will follow suit. We will have a Mass celebrated by Fr. Augustine (Gus) Fernando. Please go to the Chapter website for more info and call Woodloch Pines for your reservations. I hope to see a lot of you there for this weekend of fraternalism. The February meeting will be at St. Joseph the Worker. See You All There!
God Bless You All!
God Bless America!

My Dear Sister Columbiettes, As our Christmas season comes to an end, I am hopeful that each of you had an opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends. With the New Year upon us we return to our usual routines doing the great work of our Order.
Our first order of business in 2015 is the Charity Drive Kick-Off Meeting which is being held on January 9, 2015 at Bishop McGann Council in Bayshore. Repast is at 7:00 p.m. and the meeting begins at 8:00 p.m. This is an open meeting with Columbiettes more than welcome to attend. It is an important meeting and if I may, it will be beneficial for all Presidents or a representative from each Auxiliary to be in attendance. I am hopeful to see many of my Sister Columbiettes there!
We are forever grateful to the Knights of St. Sylvester, #6844, as they have once again provided the use of their Council Hall on Rt. 112 for our Day of Recollection which is being held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Fr. Donnelly will be joining us once again to lead us in prayer and celebrate the Holy Eucharist with us. Nancy Yenke and Jean Bodami have graciously agreed to chair this event for us. Since attendance will be limited to 40 people and we have 30 reservations to date, we urge you to contact them as soon as you can to make your reservation. The cost will be $5.00 per person, plus the cost of your lunch which we will order Chinese or Italian. If you would rather, please know that you can also brown bag it. Thank you.
Our annual Birthright Baby Shower will take place at our February meeting at Resurrection of our Lord in Farmingville. The date is February 16, 2015 beginning at 8:00 p.m. We will enjoy refreshments at 7:30 p.m. when we will also present our donation to Birthright. Please remember to bring new, unwrapped baby items.
Our Spring Fund Raiser is scheduled to be held at our April 20, 2015 meeting. Our Past Presidents are working together to host this event for us. They will share the events of the evening with us at our January meeting. I know with their experience, this will be a great evening.
With a new year, we experience a new beginning. If you enjoy spending your time doing great things for charity and others, invite other Catholic women to join you. I am sure there are many you see while attending Mass, and if you invite them, they just might surprise you with their response. We are the best kept secret out there, so lets spread the word! Our Spring Major Degree will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Patchogue Council #725. I am hopeful you will all be hosting a First Degree this spring. It is important for your Auxiliary to grow as growth brings new ideas and great friends. Please note the importance of your First Degree members making their Major Degree if they desire to be elected to an officers position in May. Thank you to Patchogue for always being there for us.
Please note the change in venue for our January meeting. We will be meeting at St. Regis in Ronkonkoma on Monday, January 19, 2015 for refreshments at 7:30 p.m. and our meeting to begin promptly at 8:00 p.m. Thank you to St. Regis for stepping up to the plate when we were in need. Farmingdale will be our refreshment host Auxiliary and we thank them. Please be sure to attend as we will be voting on our by-laws. Dont forget to bring your money to get your FAC 300 Club numbers which will also be sold beginning this month! The numbers are $50 each! Please see George Lundin for all details. I look forward to seeing you there!
On behalf of the Officers and myself, we wish you and your families a Happy and Blessed New Year. Fraternally,
Amelia Joseph Suffolk Chapter Columbiette President

Christmas comes to Woodward Children Center
Thanks to the generosity of many of the Councils and Knights in Suffolk County the 80 students at Woodward Childrens Center had a very special Christmas. Back in September, I approached each of you for support, to give a little more than we already give, and help the children at Woodward Childrens Center in Freeport the school where my daughter Joanna works. Thanks to the generosity of many, Christmas 2014 was very special for these 80 children. After their Winter Concert, Santa and a few elves visited each of the classrooms, where each child received a special gift, along with a goodie bag. Your generosity also allowed the school to have a special pizza lunch for the children, along with each child receiving a gift certificate to McDonalds. We heard over and over, words of thanks and more thanks from the students, teachers, aides and administrators.
On behalf of Mr. Ingino, Mrs. Colucci, my daughter Joanna, and everyone at Woodward Childrens Center - Thank you all for helping make their Christmas so special.

In 1954, lobbying by the Order of the Knights of Columbus
helped convince the U.S. Congress to add the phrase "under
God" to the Pledge of Allegiance. President Dwight
Eisenhower wrote to Supreme Knight Luke E. Hart thanking
the Knights for their "part in the
movement to have the words 'under God'
added to our Pledge of Allegiance." I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United
States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

PLEASE EXPEDITE
Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an
apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his
life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up
his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we
may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your servant
Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor
I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father.
