Restraining Petsin Motor VehiclesCan Save Lives

The most important thing a pet owner can do is re-strain pets when traveling in a motor vehicle.

Restraining pets keeps them from interfering with thedriver and keeps them safe in the event of sudden brak-ing or impact.

It is equally important for pets not to travel in the frontseat or sit on a passenger’s lap.

A pet could get crushed by an air bag or the body ofa passenger upon impact if sitting in the front seat or ona lap.

Restraining a pet at all times is generally a good ideafor pet owners, especially since the National HighwayTraffic Safety Administration reports that more than 1.5million automobile crashes are caused each year by dis-tracted drivers. But, according to the American Pet Prod-ucts Association’s 2009-2010 National Pet OwnerSurvey, 56 percent of respondents said they do not re-strain their dog while driving.

Unrestrained pets, just like unrestrained people anditems, can pose a serious threat to the driver and otherpassengers.

* While traveling, put a note on your pet's travel kennelwith information about your pet, as well as what to doand who to contact if something happens to you.

* While traveling away from home, use a harness or mar-tingale collar that the dog or cat won't slip out of.

* Make sure your pet has proper identification, includinga collar with ID tags and a microchip that has beenproperly registered with the microchip company. Makesure the ID tag has a phone number where you can bereached while traveling.

The Uncensored MessageMy Wife Asked Me Not to Write

Dear Friend,Well, at first, my wife asked me not to writethis. We had a big discussion about it. Finally, she understood what I was trying to do, andactually helped me write this letter to you.

Here’s the thing. In my office, most of thepeople that come in to see me tell me they’ve“tried everything.”

They’ve had “every” test, wound upwith hugemedical bills, and are still no better off. Often, they’ve been subjected to medications thathave only served to temporarily masksymptoms. That’s not what most people arelooking for.

Health, or the lack of it, very often has simplecauses, and very reasonable corrections. That’swhat I’m going to tell you about. But, before Itell you more, let me tell you something aboutme.

I remember it like it was yesterday. I’m the“athletic type” and like most young guys, Ithink that nothing can go wrong. That’s whenI’m hit with a dose of reality. I’m playing basket-ball when it happens. As I’m going for arebound, I get pushed. I land hard onmy lowerback and feel a ‘pop’. But, there’s more…

I’m in so much pain that I can barely move. Igo to see my medical doctor, but all he can dois give me drugs for the pain. But, that doesn’thelp. Three weeks later I’m still in pain. I’mfrustrated and scared that I may never playsports again. Now, listen to this…

A friend of mine convinces me to give hisdoctor a try. This new doctor does an exam, takes some films, and then ‘adjusts’ my spine. The adjustment doesn’t hurt, it actually feelsgood. I get relief, and within a week, I feelmuch better! Oh, did I mention that this doctor isa chiropractor?

Chiropractic works so well for me, and I’m soimpressed with the other ‘miracles’ I see in hisoffice, that I eventually go to chiropracticschool myself. And that’s how it happened!

Back to what my wife (at first) didn’t want meto write. It’s that chiropractic is one of thebiggest “secrets” in health care. Few people(relatively, only 10% have been to a chiroprac-tor) know about it. And, many of the rest could

be helped, if they only knew the true story. So,I often feel like shouting it from the mountain-top! Is that “professional?” Well, maybe itis, or maybe not. But, I’ve decided peopleshould know.

For the last eleven years, people from Brent-wood and the surrounding area have come tosee me with their back problems. They alsocome to me with their:

• Headaches• Migraines• Chronic pain• Neck pain• Shoulder/arm pain• Whiplash fromcar accidents

Here’s what some of my patients hadto say:

“During my pregnancy, I suffered from lowback pain and sciatica. Dr. Jardin helpedme become pain free!” – Kim M.

“I had neck pain, tingling and numbness inmy arms and hands. Thanks to Dr. Jardin, the pain is gone. I feel great!” – Diane W.

“I suffered with constant TMJ pain andheadaches with dizziness. I spent over 25years trying different things to help and Dr.Jardin’s adjustments have been the mosteffective!” – Patti W.

Several times a day patients thankme for help-ing them with their health problems. But Ican’t really take the credit. The truth is thatI’ve never healed anyone of anything. What Ido is perform a specific spinal adjustment toremove nerve pressure, and the body respondsby healing itself. Of course, all people respond

differently to care, but we get terrific results. It’s as simple as that!

EXCITING OFFER – Look, I know you’resmart. You want to get to the cause of yourproblem, and not just cover it up with drugs. When you are one of the first 20 people to calland schedule a new patient exam (by February18, 2011) you’ll receive that entire exam for $37.That’s with consultation, exam, any necessaryx-rays, full report of my findings….the wholeball of wax, and there’s no hidden fees. But, callright away because we expect to be floodedwith calls as this exam normally costs $249.Again, there’s only 20 of these slots, so don’tmiss out (by law, this offer excludesMedicare/Medicaid beneficiaries).

GREAT CARE AT A GREAT FEE – Please, Ihope that there’s no misunderstanding aboutquality of care just because I have a lowerexam fee. You’ll get great care at a great fee.My qualifications…I’m a graduate of WesternStates Chiropractic. I’ve been entrusted to takecare of tiny babies to entire families. For thepast eleven years, I’ve been taking care of yourneighbors in Brentwood. I just have that lowexam fee to help more people who need care.

My assistants are Morgan and Esmeralda, andthey are both really great people. Our office isboth friendly and warm and we try our best tomake you feel at home. We have a wonderfulservice, at an exceptional fee. Our office iscalled JARDIN FAMILY CHIROPRACTICand it’s at 7351-A Brentwood Boulevard (weare across the parking lot from McDonald’s,next to the Dollar Store). Our phone number is925-516-5813. Call Morgan, Esmeralda, or metoday for an appointment. We can help you.Thank you and God Bless.

– Dan Jardin, D.C.

P.S.When accompanied by the first, I am alsooffering the second family member this sameexamination for only $27.

P.P.S. Can you imagine not having to wait at adoctor’s office? Well, your time is as valuableas mine. That’s why we have a no-wait policy. You will be seen within minutes of yourappointment.

P.P.P.S. Of course, all people responddifferently to care.

• Carpal tunnelsyndrome

• Hip pain• Elbow pain• Numbness in limbs• Athletic injuries...just to name a few.

Mothers have a powerful influ-ence over their children’s view offinances. In fact, mothers aremore influential than fathers inteaching children how to managetheir money, and seven in tenAmericans say that their mother isor was a good role model1.

As a mother, instilling strongfinancial values in your children isone of the most important lessonsyou can pass on. Teaching goodmoney habits when your childrenare young will ingrain money man-agement skills that last a lifetime.

There are several steps motherscan take to teach children to besmart about money while helpingthem find the right balancebetween saving and spending – itstarts with their own money.

LET THEM EARN IT. Whenyour children are old enough to dochores around the house, givethem a small allowance. This canincrease over time as the level ofthe chores grows. By havingchildren earn money for chores, you will teach them the value of adollar. Increasing the amount theyearn when their responsibilitiesincrease, can also help to instill astrong work ethic.

TEACH THEM ABOUT ALLO-CATION. Once your children startreceiving money, from allowanceor from gifts they’ve received, explain why they should putmoney aside in savings and helpothers who are less fortunate.Help them decide how much theyshould spend and what percent-

age they want to allocate forsavings and charity. This practicewill get your children thinkingabout their financial futures.

FACILITATE THE SAVINGSPROCESS. Bring your child to thebank and set up a savings ac-count. Have the bank representa-tive explain to your child how todeposit their money and how theirmoney earns interest. Let yourchildren keep track of their ownbank account statements so theycan see their savings grow overtime and how long it takes for thatbalance to increase. (I think weshould discuss online banking veryfew people actually go to the bankthese days)

SAY NO. If your child wants anew toy, suggest saving for it andtell her or him that you will goback to the store when they haveenough set aside. Or, offer to splitthe cost. When your child doesmake that purchase, suggest giv-ing an old toy to another child inneed. Chances are your child willfeel a sense of accomplishmentfor saving enough to make thatspecial purchase and will feel

good about doing something tomake another child happy.

GIVE THEM CONTROL. Allowthem to choose what they spendtheir money on, even if you knowit is a bad idea. Spending hardearned money on something thatturns out to be a disappointmentcan teach a valuable lesson, andone that’s better learned early.

BE REALISTIC ABOUTSPENDING. Let your childrenknow how much things cost. Behonest with them if you cannot af-ford to buy something or go some-where. Give them a simple lessonin budgeting. Explain how muchmoney comes into the household, how much goes to living expensesand savings, and what is left overfor discretionary spending. If youare not comfortable sharing theactual dollar amounts, use per-centages. This will help them un-derstand why they cannot alwayshave whatever they want wheneverthey want it. Teaching this at ayoung age will help your childrento budget their money as they getolder and when they are runningtheir own households.

EXPLAIN THE PITFALLS OFDEBT. It is important to talk withyour children about debt, but leadby example. As parents, we willalways want to purchase things forour children, but don’t pull outthat credit card to make apurchase today that you might notbe able to afford until next month. One of the fastest ways thatpeople get into unmanageabledebt is through credit card use, most often when young. By puttingaway the credit card and teachingyour children about interest ratesand about the real costs of bor-rowing money, you will help themavoid foolish spending that theycannot afford.

These are just a few ways youcan help your children to becomefinancially savvy. As they get olderand begin earning more moneythemselves, you may want tohelp them open and balance achecking account, develop abudget and perhaps even a long-term financial strategy. For moretips and ideas, talk to a financialprofessional.

HOME UPDATEINVENTORY DOWN / PENDING SALES DOWN…WAS IT THE HOLIDAYSEASON? The recent slowdown of REO’s to hit the market coupled withsome sellers taking their homes off the market for the holidays may havecontributed to a sleepier market the last 30 days or so but expect lateJanuary and February to ramp up a bit as sellers and buyers emerge fromtheir holiday naps and get busy.

SHORT SALE SALVATION?As of January 1st there’s a new reason to consider a SHORT SALE if youfind yourself owing more on your home than it’s worth.

NEW LAW THAT BEGAN ON JANUARY 1 - SB931 IN PART READS:“ SECTION 1. Section 580e is added to the Code of Civil Procedure,to read:

580e. (a) No judgment shall be rendered for any deficiency undera note secured by a first deed of trust or first mortgage for adwelling of not more than four units, in any case in which thetrustor or mortgagor sells the dwelling for less than the remainingamount of the indebtedness due at the time of sale with the writtenconsent of the holder of the first deed of trust or first mortgage.Written consent of the holder of the first deed of trust or firstmortgage to that sale shall obligate that holder to accept the saleproceeds as full payment and to fully discharge the remaining amountof the indebtedness on the first deed of trust or first mortgage.”

NOW IT MAKES EVEN MORE SENSE TO CONSIDER A SHORTSALE INSTEAD OF A FORECLOSUREConsidering a short sale or foreclosure is a big decision. In addition toyour Realtor, consult legal and tax experts.

Short sales and REO’s continue to dominate the market. If you find your-self in a tricky predicament of needing to sell but your home is worth lessthan it’s worth, call us and we’ll talk you through your options.

Gotta run, have homes to show, but call me for the latest market infoand check out my Real Estate Website at 94505homes.com.

Ciao. Mike
