Introduction

The purpose of the Month of May Success Stories Campaign was two-fold: to increase CPD visibility among students and to create a synergistic way to capture the success stories of Baylor students as a result of using services of the CPD office. Together, the team launched this campaign as a contest to students for the chance to win a free T-shirt. The contest was promoted through targeted e-mails to three different groups in the HireABear database, as well as weekly posts and promos on the CPD social media channels. The following questions are what students responded to on the Qualtrics survey:

Student Recommendations for CPD:

Add a “Can’t make it in to our office? Email Your Resume to us” Review Review option; we'll review it and then make an appointment with you that fits your schedule so we can review it. I also think it would be really helpful if y'all offered a networking session with Baylor Alumni who are looking for employees. Kind of like a career fair and alumni network get-together. –Alaina O’Daniel

Have an FDM career fair! –Amira Lewally

A better network to connect with alumni in various companies! It would help to talk to Baylor grads (especially recent ones) about their jobs. –Danny Huizinga

A workshop on salary negotiation could be helpful for competitive students with multiple job offers. –Ellen Scott

Facilitate more opportunities for students to become connected with companies seeking Baylor applicants. –Garrett Chandler

I would like for there to be a larger alumni network within specific career paths. As an education major I had no idea which schools had already hired Baylor graduates or not. I ended up getting a job at a school where the principal was a Baylor alumni and had I known that I would've brought it up much earlier in the interview process. –Kelsey Lowe

The majority of the networking that I did was on my own because Baylor lacked resources in the field of broadcast journalism. My advice would be to partner with the multiple alumni who are in broadcast positions and create a network to allow current students to gain advice and wisdom from alumni who are currently working in the field. In addition, this would allow for opportunities to partner with the companies and cable networks these alumni are employed by. –Madison Adams

I would recommend maybe a bit more interest sessions for freshmen, where it's described in detail what the different majors require. Maybe there is already something like this and I just don't know or didn't go as a freshman, but it would be helpful to know what the major actually entails, what jobs could come from it, and get to talk to alumni that graduated with that major. –Mary Beth Walker

I'm not sure if this is available or not, but a one-on-one personal career coach would be beneficial to the students in order to guide them in the best way possible. –Nicole Turner

Consider requiring students to work with the career services department to make sure they are moving towards the goals they truly want. –Rachael Wilson

Maybe to have a career specialist in every department on campus. I know as a psychology major, it wasn't until senior year when Josh Bias was hired and he was the go-to for psych-related career questions...which was a little later for us senior. I feel like a specific career specialist should be available for every major instead of just having a bunch of general ones. I know my friends and I all thought that would have been more helpful. –Samantha Synett

Help students more with communication/conversational interviewing skills. –Victoria Nguyen

Summary

As a result of the campaign, the CPD Instagram page received an increase of 30% new followers in the timespan of one month. With almost a third new followers, the office’s visibility was increased, allowing our services to reach more Baylor students. In addition, the Qualtrics survey will allow the office to streamline the process of collecting and reporting student success stories. Therefore, both purposes of the campaign were fulfilled in a short period of time.

Our recommendations for the future are:

1. Continue using the Qualtrics survey as it is now posted as a link on the CPD website, with a few edits to remove Month of May wording.

2. More student success stories and student pictures should be posted to our website under the Success Stories tab so that current and prospective students, parents, and employers can see how our office helps students.

3. Provide the results of this campaign and success stories to President and other important constituents.

4. Implement feasible student recommendations from the survey to improve the quality of the CPD office.
