Success Stories of Large Capacity fixed dome biogas plants installed in Punjab
(1). Large Capacity PAU Model Biogas Plant of capacity 2500 m3 / day (5 x 500
m3/d capacity each) installed in a Industry namely M/s Bhatinda Ceramics Pvt.
Ltd., Bathinda, Punjab for Power Generation / Thermal Applications.
Installation of the Project = June, 2012
Cost of the Project = 399.68 Lakh
Subsidy received from MNRE = 75.00 Lakh
Administrative charges to PAU Ludhiana = 7.5 Lakh
Electricity generation per day = 2200 to 2500 unit
Saving of Industrial Fuel per day
(by replacing industrial fuel by biogas for
operating the Tunnel Kiln of the Industry) = 600 Ltr.
Cost of Industrial fuel = Rs. 20000/- per day.
(2). Large Capacity PAU Model Biogas Plant of capacity 120 m3 / day installed in a
R. S. Dairy Farm, V.P.O. – Bahadurpur, District – Ropar, Punjab for supply
of biogas to 75 nos. of households in the village.
Installation of the Project = April, 2012
Cost of the Project = 15.00 Lakh
Central Financial Assistance from MNRE = Nil
Total No. of houses in the Village = 75
No. of Cattle available with Dairy Farm = 150
Daily dung collection (appx.) = 3000 Kg.
Total Investment made by = Dilbar Singh
No. of gas connections in operation = 70
No. of Families having individual biogas plants = 02
Duration of Biogas supply to the households = 2 hours each
for 3 times in Morning, Noon and Evening.
Average consumption of biogas per family = 1.5 m3 – 2 m3
Payment for using biogas = Free of cost
Any break down in the system during the
period from April, 2012 to October, 2017 = No
Maintenance of Gas Pipeline system and
other accessories = Payment to the
plumber is being made
by the beneficiaries
Utilization of Bio-digested slurry = It is filled in the tanker
having capacity of
5000 litre as such and
is being sold
@ Rs. 700/- per tanker.
(3). Large Capacity PAU Model Biogas Plant of capacity 100 m3 / day installed in
a Lambra Kangri Multipurpose Cooperative Service Society Ltd.,
District – Hoshiarpur, Punjab for supply of biogas to 44 nos. of households
in the village.

• Daily dung collection (approximately) : 2500 Kg.• Capacity of biogas plant : 100 m3
• Year of Installation of Biogas Plant : April, 2016• At present, No. of gas connections in
operation: 44
• Cost of per kg cattle dung provided bythe society to the farmers
: 10 paisa per kg
• Duration of Biogas supply to thehouseholds
: From 4:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily
• Average consumption of biogas perfamily
: 1.0 m3 – 2 m3
• Payment being collected from thehouseholds for using biogas
: Upto 10m3 - Rs. 10/m3
10m3 to 20m3 - Rs. 8/m3
>20m3 - Rs. 6/m3
• Average monthly bill of biogas : Rs. 200/- to Rs. 300/-• Maintenance of Gas Pipeline system
and other accessories: The Maintenance cost for this project is
being made by the Society.• Utilization of Bio-digested slurry : It is filled in the tanker having capacity of
5000 litre as such and is being sold @ Rs.800/- per tanker.
• Satisfaction of the families / householdsby using biogas
: They are very happy and most of them arenot using LPG / any other alternative fuelfor their daily cooking needs.
