The Good, the Bad & the Ugly
Good Features of Passwords:– contains at least one non-alphabetic character– two-word combinations or a phrase– common word or phrase spelled differently,
e.g.,“younikrn” for “unicorn”Bad Features of Passwords:
– single word found in dictionary– easily guessed, e.g., your birth date, SIN, street name,
phone number, licence number, child’s name– recycled version of previous password, e.g., hello2– using the same password for all your applications
Remember- the uglier the better for passwords!

BC Gov Password Rules
• Passwords expire every 90 days– Minimum = 8 characters– Maximum = 14 characters
• No part of your username• Not start with a a number or a symbol• Contain characters from of the following:
– English UPPERCASE and lowercase characters– Base 10 digits– Valid Symbols $_#
• BCeSIS passwords are not case sensitive

Password Protection
• Pick a good, ugly password• Guard it like your bank card PIN• NEVER give your password to a colleague, no
matter how trusted• If you forget your password, call your district
BCeSIS help desk and they can reset it• Change your password regularly
Information in BCeSIS is private. Passwords are the primary tool for maintaining privacy

Query Function
• A very powerful tool to help you find records quickly
• Query Functions can be performed using:– Query Menu– F7 & F8 keys
If no search criteria are used, all records in your school are returned. This may take a while.
