3Vista de la subasta de FLORA /
View of FLORA’s auction, 2014.

flora opened to the public in August 2013, and since then we have maintained an intense program of residen-cies, exhibitions, studios, workshops, talks, grants and multiple complementary activities. Our 2014 auction was very successful in terms of visibil-ity and fundraising, which allowed us to strengthen our operation and to plan ahead for the second phase of our project, which is focused on education. For 2016 we plan to expand FLORA onto a contiguous plot of land that we already acquired and where we will build a four-story building.
The ground floor will house a larger library, for which we already secured funding thanks to a successful campaign launched through Art Basel and Kickstarter. The remain-ing three levels will house four studios each, for a total of 12. These studios will be assigned to artists as part of a program for year-long grants, following an open call in late 2015. Besides having space for a year, the selected artists will attend Escuela FLORA, an Independent Study Program centered on studio practice. We will have artists, curators, art historians and other thinkers as guest professors, all of whom will conduct studio visits and lead theoretically focused seminars. Moreover, the participants will take part in a reading seminar led by José Roca, curator, and Sylvia Juliana Suárez, art historian, centered on texts critical for understanding contemporary art. Your participation in this auction will go directly into fund-ing for these grants, so that we can assign the studios and offer the study program cost-free to the artists.
