Ripon Printers recently earned three prestigious awards from the National Association for Printing

Leadership (NAPL). These industry-wide acknowledgements included two gold Marketing Plus™ Awards and one Management Plus™ silver award.

The Marketing Plus™ program honors marketing excellence by graphic communications companies in a dozen categories, representing a wide range of marketing activity, from corporate identity programs and direct mail to sales/lead generation and website development.Ripon received gold awards in the Direct Mail Marketing and Vertical Markets categories for printers with more than $2 million in annual sales.

Entries in the Direct Mail Marketing category included effective direct mail campaigns of one piece or multiple components. The Vertical Markets category consisted of campaigns to promote company core competencies and services specifically relevant to identified vertical markets and positioning the company as an effective market leader in these market segments.

The NAPL Management Plus™ Award

Ripon Printers Earns Multiple NAPL Awards for Management and Marketing Excellence

requires winners to meet high standards in a number of areas including strategic planning, sales and marketing, finance, operations, human resources, leadership and community/industry relations. As an award winner, Ripon automatically becomes a member of the NAPL Management Plus™ Society, enabling the company to display the Society emblem on all company promotional materials as a symbol of our dedication to excellence in business practices.

“Earning multiple awards in the NAPL marketing and management competitions is a great honor and a testament to the dedication and talents of our employees,” says Ripon Printers’ president Andy Lyke. “We will continue to pursue goals that benefit our customers while strengthening Ripon as a print and multichannel provider.”

The awards will be presented on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at the

Management Plus™ Awards dinner program during the industry-wide Vision 3 Summit conference at the Marco Island Marriott in Marco Island, Florida. RIPON

gathered, one inside the other, and secured through the center with two or three staples, depending upon the thickness of the piece. This is less expensive than perfect binding but also has thickness limitations – generally 1/4" – as well as lower perceived value.

Best Apps: Journals, magazines, catalogs, annual reports and booklets.

Plastic Coil:An inexpensive binding method whereby slots are punched along the binding edge with a plastic spiral inserted into the slots. This method allows the document to lay completely flat as well as accom- modate a variety of different papers and inserts. The plastic filament is available in a variety of colors.

Ripon Printers’ Sterling Coilmaster III Plastic Coil Binding System creates custom diameter coil from

plastic filament and automatically inserts it into the document from the first hole onwards. It then cuts and crimps the plastic coil automatically.

One of the machine’s advantages is it eliminates the need to store plastic coil and the cost savings of producing 12" lengths of coil from filament is well over 50 percent. The machine can form coils as small as 10 millimeters (.393") and bind books from 1/4" to 1" thick, 5" to 14" tall and 4" to 12" wide.

Best Apps: Cookbooks, manuals, presentations and training materials.

Easy? Right!

Andy Lyke

I’m learning (slowly, I may add) that when someone claims something is easy, it often

isn’t true.Have you ever gotten lost

while driving? You pull into a gas station, and the person you’ve asked for help says, “It’s easy to get there from here” and immediately you forget what that person said beyond the first two turns? All I can say is thank goodness for GPS!

Where I had my epiphany about the “lies of easy” came

a couple of years ago when my wife and I added a little landscaping in our backyard. I remember repeating several times to the landscaper we wanted something “easy” to maintain.

Fast forward a couple of years and we now have out of control bushes, weeds that are thriving and

dead plants that I assume were once NOT weeds.

Sadly, I’m sure I’ve said that something was easy when in

fact the person who tried to follow my suggestion/directions found it was anything but easy. When you are the expert, there are tasks

that are second nature to you but possibly very challenging to others.

I write this with the frustration of my lack of knowledge (and interest!) in taking care of plants and wishing I truly had plants in my yard that were easy to maintain. Thinking about this with our business, there are probably hundreds of ways a job can go off track or not complete as planned.

Our job at Ripon Printers is to make the process as easy as possible for

customers, even if and when the process isn’t as easy as we thought. We hope that customers like you will let us know if you need help, and I hope that we truly help make our customer’s jobs, with any luck, truly easy! RIPON
