WHAT IS OUR BRAND ALL ABOUT?The Recreation department offers the UCR community options to live active and healthy lives while pursuing academic goals and careers. This guide provides resources to promote the department’s mission, goals, and active spirit through the use of photography, color, typography and approved logos to exalt the department’s mission to cultivate mental, physical and social development through recreational services, programs and facilities. We believe the greatest numbers of individuals participating under our direction are still in the formative and active phases of their lives, when vigorous participation in games and recreation is necessary, and beneficial to their well-being.

DEPARTMENT LOGOS The UCR identity program integrates hundreds of academic and administrative entities (“departments”) and their hierarchies within a unified brand. A system of customized logos extending and reinforcing the University’s two main logos was created for all such entities within the University.

UCR RECREATION LOGO SIZE AND PLACEMENTAll print and digital media that is associated with the department must include the UCR Recreation logo. Within the UCR Recreation department, only Primary Wordmark Department Lock-ups and Monogram Department Lock-ups are permitted. Department-within-department Logos or Monogram Department-within-department Lock-ups are not used within the Recreation department.

PRIMARY WORDMARK DEPARTMENT LOCK-UPSApproved vertical and horizontal department logos use either the UCR wordmark or UCR monogram. Department names must lock up in approved font and correct size.

MONOGRAM DEPARTMENT LOCK-UPSWhen using a department monogram, it is recommended that the words “University of California, Riverside” always be present within the document or, at the very least, on the cover.

If you need assistance with the department-branded logo, please contact [email protected], (951) 827-4913, [email protected], (951) 827-3951, or visit https://brand.ucr.edu/.

UC RIVERSIDE STATIONARY The University’s letterhead, envelopes and business cards were designed to maintain the integrity of the campus identity and establish a professional quality stationery system to represent the institution.

REC IT MARKETING CAMPAIGNThe Rec It marketing campaign was introduced as a way to wrap the Recreation department’s marketing materials in an energetic look and style. Identity “taglines” (e.g., branding phrases, like “Just do it”) is used by departments to reinforce their marketing position.

REC IT LOGO SIZE AND PLACEMENTThe Rec It logo is used for promotional items such as t-shirts, water bottles, bags, etc.

Even if the Rec It logo is used, all print and digital media that is associated with the department must include the UCR Recreation logo. To keep the integrity of the UCR monogram logo, the monogram must be surrounded by clear space at least equal to the width of the letter “U.” For applications when the UCR monogram logo is less than 1 inch, an alternate “Rec It” version can be used. Use this version of the logo to maintain fine detail and readability at this scale. However, the UCR Recreation monogram must be included on the media and must be 1 inch or larger. Otherwise, the official small scale UCR monogram must be used. Refer back to “UCR Recreation logo size and placement” section of this guide for details.

FONT AND TYPOGRAPHY HIERARCHYUse any typeface from the Gotham family. Here are the most commonly used styles within the Rec It marketing campaign.

PHOTOGRAPHYUse photographs with the Rec It template layout that accurately illustrates the event or activity promoted. Photos should be hi-resolution, clearly show faces, and the activity or imagery must tie into the content of the designed media. Show people having fun! Show off our beautiful facility, equipment, or staff! Happy smiling faces are preferred. Remember to choose photos that are tasteful, represent the UCR community, and the clothing of the person(s) represented should adhere to the SRC clothing policies. Select photos that fit into the Rec It templates where left or right justified text helps guide the viewer’s eye from top to bottom, left to right of the media.

Photos can be downloaded from our photo management system, https://www.photoshelter.com/login, within the “Student Recreation Center” Invited Galleries. Images found within this system is preferred, however, if an appropriate image cannot be found, the Recreation department has access to images on https://istockphoto.com/.

Please contact the Recreation marketing team for system login access or to download a specific stock image: [email protected], (951) 827-4913 or [email protected], (951) 827-3951.
