The overall goal of the Small Towns Wa-ter Sanitation and Hygiene Programme (STWP) is to contribute to reducing the burden on diarrhoeal diseases , including cholera; and increasing productivity amongst the 500,000 inhabitants , includ-ing women, children and the vulnerable in 14 small towns. Amount of Grant: US$30 million Donor: Australian Government Aid Pro-gramme (AusAid) Duration of Programme: 2013—2016 Recipients: Local authorities of small towns: Bindura, Chipinge, Chiredzi, Chivhu. Gokwe, Gwanda, Hwange, Karoi, Mutoko, Mvurwi, Plumtree, Rusape, Shu-rugwi and Zvishavane.

As I was walking back home one evening from the town centre ,I decided to use a short route passing through a bushy area ,I unfortunately stepped on a heap of human feaces and my whole shoe was soiled. This deeply saddened me to an extent that I threw away one of my best shoes .This was the turning point into my life I had to come back from retirement and decided to be a community health and hygiene facil-itator so that I can share knowledge on hygiene and prevention of open defecation—Recalls Mrs. Kumbirai Musangwiza from Ward 8, Shurugwi Town
