Common Concerns: BCPS Principals vs What Parents Find Important
15
Common Principal Concerns• The perception of safety driving student choice
• School letter grade high in over-enrolled schools and low
in under-enrolled schools
• Principal leadership is better at over-enrolled schools
• The “best teachers” leave to teach at “nicer” schools
• “Newer and shinier” schools attract more students
• Schools with low enrollment have budgetary needs
compared to those with high enrollment that are able to
offer programs and technology addressing the
academic interests of the students
• Difficult to promote under-enrolled schools
• Student mobility is higher in lower performing schools
than higher performing schools
STUDY OF ENROLLMENT IN BROWARD COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

• High student expectation/individual
attention
