Study Abroad CoordinatorJoe Lewis

Joe has worked with our Study Abroad and Exchange students for over 10 years. He is responsible for the entire student journey from application to issuing Goldsmiths transcripts. Joe also provides a vital pastoral role to students. Based in our International Office Joe is available to all students Monday to Friday on a drop-in basis to answer any questions and sometimes offer a cup of tea!

About JoeThe best thing about working at Goldsmiths is: interaction with the students and dealing with all the various situations where students need advice/assistance.If I were to describe Goldsmiths in three words they would be: welcoming, diverse, interesting.The best thing about London is: I like that anything your mind or body fancies is there for you.When I’m not working I like to: watch sport, films, cook and walk the dog when it's not raining!

Study Abroad – How does it work?• Generally students will choose 4 classes per

academic session.• These classes can be from any of our 18

departments. • Students can choose from over 350 classes.• Classes are offered at all levels of our curriculum,

from foundation level to our final year options. • 90% of our classes are fully integrated; study

abroad students studying alongside full time undergraduates. The other 10% of our classes are specifically designed for study abroad and will have an experiential element.

When to Study Abroad

At Goldsmiths students can choose how long to study abroad

• Full year – September to June• Autumn Term – September to December• Autumn & Spring Term – September to March• Spring Term – January to March• Spring & Summer Term – January to June

How to applyTo apply to Goldsmiths students will:

- Select their term of study i.e. Spring Term- Chose 4 classes per term & provide 4 alternative classes- Complete a Goldsmiths application- Supply a reference- Provide a transcript- Portfolios may also be requested for arts based classes

Learning environmentGoldsmiths encourages

students to think critically and use innovative

approaches to learning. Our teaching groups are designed

to be small to allow for discussion and debate.

All study abroad students are allocated an International Liaison Officer with each department they study in. This

ILO acts as a personal tutor to help students adjust to their new learning environment.

Tuition fees- Goldsmiths Study Abroad fees are based on a ‘High Cost’

and ‘Low Cost’ system. ‘High Cost’ programmes are those with a major studio or laboratory content, or which mainly involve Art Practice, Communication Studies, Computing, Design, Drama, Music or Psychology – or any majority combination of these subjects.

- Students who take the majority of their classes from ‘High Cost’ disciplines will be charged the ‘High Cost’ fee.

- Students attending Goldsmiths through a provider should check with their home University to clarify the cost of attending Goldsmiths.
