Using Student Loans to Fund Study Abroad

Students often use loans to cover some or all of their study abroad costs.

A loan is borrowed money students need to pay back, with interest Federal student loans require students and/or parents to complete

the FAFSA Non-governmental loans or private bank student loans are an

option too. Different interest rates than government loans. Talk with your Financial Aid Office about these options.

Budgeting

In addition to the Program Fee, you need to budget for: Food & Fun money – what can

your lifestyle or budget afford? College tuition is an additional

cost, except for Taiwan program General personal expenses: local

transportation, laundry, food, SIM card (phone), books, etc.

Talk with your family about what’s possible or within your limits

General Budget Expectations for a student traveler: Plan for what you need to spend. Food is an essential need. $300-500 a
