Outgoing Leaders Applauded We would like to take this opportunity to express thanks to the outgoing captains, vice captains and prefects who have been a most amazing group of young leaders. Year 5 and 6 School Social The school social will be held tonight in the school hall. Parents are to drop students off at the top gate at 6:15pm for a 6:30pm start. Students will be picked up at the top gate at 9pm sharp. Students will not be able to leave the premises without a parent.

K-2 Christmas Picnic On Thursday 10

th December students will be participating

in some fun activities at school including a disco, chalk drawing and outside activities. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, parents will be unable to attend this event. Students can wear mufti clothes (no school uniform) e.g. t-shirts and shorts/skirts (no singlet tops). Please ensure children wear covered shoes (no thongs), a hat and sunscreen. Following a morning of fun activities, children will return to their own class to watch the Christmas Concert video. Recess and lunch will be as normal.

Years 3-6 Presentation Assembly Our annual Presentation Day assembly will be held this Friday 11

th December in our school hall at 11:30am. All

students receiving an award on the day were given a note last Friday from their teacher. Unfortunately, this year due to Covid-19 restrictions, we are unable to have parents and other family members in the audience. We know how important it is for our families to be able to watch this assembly so we will be live streaming it via a private YouTube link: tinyurl.com/MPS20PresentationDay. You can also find this link on our Milton Public School Facebook page. A reminder to all students that full school uniform is required, including yellow t-shirts for Year 6 students who are receiving awards.

Library Borrowing All library resources are now due to be returned to the library. Students have been given a slip of paper if they still have a book on loan. Please look high and low for any books that may have been lost over the last few years. All returns would be greatly appreciated. Sometimes students place books back on shelves and not into the returns box (Boris). I encourage students to let the library staff know if they think they have returned a book so we can look on the shelves. If you cannot find a borrowed book please write a short note explaining this to the librarian. Thank you for your cooperation. Stephen Grant Teacher Librarian

Reports Student reports will be sent home with students this Wednesday, 9th December. Parents are welcome to arrange to speak with the class teacher to discuss the report, if required. Appointments can be made directly with the teacher at a mutually convenient time up to Wednesday, 16th December.

School Banking Following recent changes by ASIC, Government schools are no longer able to participate in a School Banking scheme. Bendigo Bank has supported our school banking for many years with many students being able to deposit funds into their account through the school. We thank Bendigo Bank, Milton for making banking available to our students. Parents are welcome to bank directly with the branch.

Year 6 Graduation Assembly and Camp Out On Monday the 14th of December, Year 6 will be holding their final graduation assembly. Students will be presented with their graduation certificates as well as their yearbooks. Normally the assembly is open to families however, due to the current situation with social distancing rules, this will unfortunately be a school only event. We appreciate everyone's understanding and look forward to some sort of normal operations next year. Students will need to wear their Year 6 shirts and school uniform for the assembly and then on the excursion to the Dunn Lewis centre. Following the assembly, the students will commence their camp out with a trip to the Dunn Lewis Centre and will need to remain in uniform until after the excursion. Parents wishing to drop off tents etc can do so from 9:30am till 2:30pm at the designated areas outside the front office. Regards Year 6 teachers

Proposed changes to school bell times. The principals from the local public schools recently attended a meeting with Ulladulla Buslines to look at school start and finish times. Ulladulla Primary has proposed that the start and finish times of our schools be moved back by 10-15 mins. The reasoning behind this is based around a large and growing number of students who are arriving early at Ulladulla PS before supervision is provided. Whilst we at Milton do not have the same volume of students arriving early, we still have a sizeable number and if we were to start the day a little earlier, it would help with the supervision and safety of our students. I would like to gather some thoughts from our community to add to the discussion. If you have an opinion in support of or against the proposal, please complete and return the slip on page 3 by Friday, 11

th December.

Day One 2021 Friday, 29th January 2021 As students arrive at school on Friday 29th January, students in years 1 and 2 (2021) will place their bags outside the hall in the canteen COLA and stay in the silver seat area until assembly. Students in years 3-6 (2021) will place their bags in the Upper COLA and stay in the COLA or quadrangle until assembly. We will start with a whole school assembly in the hall with all children years 1-6 sitting in their 2020 places. After assembly, students will collect their bags and break off in year groups listed below: Year 1 - to silver seats area Year 2 - to Canteen COLA Year 3 - to Bus Shelter Year 4 - to Grassy area at the top Quad (or Library if inclement weather) Year 5 - to Eastern end of COLA Year 6 - to Western end of COLA. Please note we do not form 2021 classes this first week of school to allow for enrolment numbers to settle.

Importance of being a dependable dad Holding up your end of the deal with your kids

Family relationships are the biggest influence on your child’s development. From the moment they are born, bonding with you helps your children learn that their world is safe and secure and that they are loved. When your children feel secure and loved, they are more confident to explore their world, and this is how they learn and develop socially and emotionally. Dads need to be dependable. Kids need to know that Dad will respond to any situation and try to provide for their physical and emotional needs. When you make this effort and hold up your end of the deal with your kids it will create lasting bonds. You will also find out how much fun it is to be a dad who does take those opportunities to spend time with his kids. There are many things that fathers can do in the midst of a busy life to make a difference in the lives of their children. It doesn’t take a huge amount of time and the busier you are the more kids appreciate the time you spend with them. It makes them feel really special and that they’re worth your time.
