1.1. VISA AND TRAVEL INFORMATION It is important to apply for your student visa at least 8-12 weeks before the start of the course at your local Swiss Embassy/Consulate. To apply for the student visa, the following documents are generally required:

After your arrival in Switzerland, the school will obtain the necessary study and work placement permits for you.

1.2. SECURITY DEPOSITThis deposit is a security deposit from which can be deducted the following (this list is not exhaustive): • Damages caused directly by you in your room and/or the school premises

• Collective damages: the damages that cannot be allocated to one student in particular and that are therefore split between all students

• Yearbook

• Deductible for health insurance

• UnpaidschoolfeesunderCHF100.- The security deposit is paid in full only once. In the following terms you will only pay what has been used during the previous term. The security deposit will be refunded to you six months after the end of the last academic term.

1.3. PRE-DEPARTURE SESSIONSIn many countries, pre-departure sessions are organised for students to meet each other and receive a briefingbyalocalrepresentativeonhowtopreparefortheirstayinSwitzerland.

1.4. ARRIVAL TIMES/DATESYou will be able to move into your accommodation and have your meals at the school starting from 9amontheFridayoftheinductionweekend.Studentsshouldnotarriveattheschoolbeforethistime. IfyoucannotavoidarrivingbeforeFriday,youwillhavetoarrangeyourownaccommodation.

1.9. INDUCTION WEEKENDOvertheinductionweekend,youwillgothroughanorientationprogrammethatgivesanintroductionto the courses and life at school. A series of induction points will be set up to help you get acquainted with the school. School uniform, class schedule and books will also be distributed during this time. We strongly recommend for you to arrive no later than 2pm on Sunday

2.1. DRESSCODEName Tag & Pin Students will receive a name tag and a school pin and are required to wear them during class hours and while on professional academic excursions. The name tag is to be worn horizontally on the left side of the chest.

Practical Service Uniforms Professional uniform for the kitchen and restaurant practical classes are loaned to the students during the term and must be returned at the end of each term.

Dresscode What To Bring To complete the uniform, all female student are asked to bring business attire.To complete the uniform, all male student are asked to bring business attire.Please also bring several white shirts.

2.2. ADDITIONAL CLOTHINGYou should bring an additional business suit to wear when your school uniform is being cleaned. To be able to wear your own business suit, you will be required to obtain a uniform dispensation form from the reception.For winter weather, please bring:• Thickpaddedjacketorovercoat• Sweaters• Glovesandscarves• Sturdy waterproof shoes• Warm hat

2.3. SMART CASUAL CLOTHINGItisimportantforyouasastudentofahotelmanagementschooltoprojectaprofessionalimage,even when you are not wearing a school uniform. At the beginning of the term our staff and lecturers may advise you on your attire. Please take their comments as sound advice and dress accordingly. Make sure to maintain these standards during both the academic term and your internships.

2.4. SPECIAL EVENTS/NATIONAL UNIFORMSThink of bringing a traditional costume from your home country as it could be useful for special events.

2.5. POCKET MONEYYou will require pocket money in order to purchase toiletries, postage, make phone calls and participate in leisure activities outside of school hours. The amount depends on the leisure activities undertaken, butasuggestedminimumamountisCHF100.-perweek.

2.7. POWER ADAPTER

Below is a picture of a Swiss power socket.

A power adaptor may be required to plug in electrical appliances bought in a country outside of Switzerland; such adaptors are usually available from travel shops and at the airport.

2.8. PERSONAL LAPTOPAlthough the school provides a modern IT resource centre, we encourage you to bring your own laptop.Laptopsmustbecompatibletoconnecttotheschoolnetwork(WPA2EnterpriseAuthentication802.1X).Pleasenotethatitisessentialthatyourcomputerrunsanoperatingsystem(WindowsorMac)in English. Your device should have an up to date anti-virus, and we recommend to regularly backup your data, in case something goes wrong with your machine.

3.3. ACADEMIC FACILITIES

3.3.1. ClassroomsDuringyourfirstfewdaysyouwillbegivenaguidedtouroftheschool,discoveringwhereyourclasseswillbe held. The Classrooms are set up as innovative learning space for the students, set up to complement and encourage usage of iPad in daily academic activities.

3.3.2. Training Restaurants Each of our students will go through service operations classduring the academic studies.Under the guidance of the F&B lecturer in the training restaurant, youwilllearntheclassicservicemethodsincludingvariousfoodservicetechniques,flambée,cheese&wineservice.

3.3.3. Training KitchensInthetrainingkitchensoftheschoolunderthechefinstructors’supervision,studentswillgetpracticalexperience close to the real-life environment: from preparation of the mise en place to dish service, and from ordering to clean-up.

3.3.4. Academic Office The academic office assists students with any administrative issues related to academics: study attestations, records of achievement, diplomas, class schedules, module exemptions, etc.

Module Exemption and Procedure Studentswhohave thoroughknowledgeorqualifications inamodulemaybeexempted.Exemptionrequestsmust bemadeduring thefirstweekof the term. The appropriate form, available from theacademicofficemustbesubmittedtotheprogrammemanagerinthefirstweekoftheacademictermaccompaniedbysupportingdocuments(transcripts,coursedescriptionsandlearningobjectives).

3.3.7. Learning Resources CentreA full-time librarian in our well-stocked library is available to assist with your questions. Students also have access to a wide range of online catalogues and articles.

3.4.2. Coffee ShopRitz Lounge - Bouveret On the ground floor of “Hotel Aiglon”, the main building of Le Bouveret campus, you will find “RitzLounge”,open7daysaweekfromearlymorninguntil lateeveningandservinghotandcoldbeverages,pastriesandhotdishessuchaspizzas.RitzLoungecanserveaswellstudyareasandstudents’meeting points.

3.5. OTHER INFORMATION

3.5.1. Room KeyEach live-in student will receive their room key that should be used carefully and kept safe. If a key is lost ordamaged,areplacementcanbeobtainedfromthereceptionforCHF150.-(50.-inLucerne).Keysneedto be returned at the end of each term.

3.5.2. Notice BoardsNotice boards may be located around your campus displaying various information on excursions, social events and other important news.

3.5.3. Luggage Room During your internship periods, you will have the opportunity to store one piece of luggage or one standardbox in theschool’s luggageroomforamaximumperiodofsixmonths.All itemsmustbeclearly labelled and locked or sealed. This service is free of charge and the school will not be held responsible for any damages or loss of possessions stored.

3.5.4. Laundry Fullyequippedstudent laundry facilitiesareavailable, includingwashers,dryersand ironingboards.Thesefacilitiesarecard-operated.Cardsareavailableforpurchasefromthefrontoffice.

3.5.5. Safety Deposit BoxesYour school has a limited number of Safety Deposit boxes available for rent. In case of need, a deposit can bemadewith the front office for up to 10 days after arrival (until you open your ownbank/postaccount).Studentsareresponsibleforthecontentsoftheirsafeandtheschoolwillnotbeheldresponsibleincaseofloss,theftordamage.(ThereisasafetydepositboxineachroominLucerne)

3.6.1.Welcome Party / Icebreaker An icebreaker party is organised at the beginning of every academic intake and all students are invited to attend to meet and get to know each other.

3.6.2. Cultural/Themed Nights & Banquets As part of the curricular programme, students will organise and attend banquets, theme nights and other cultural events. It is a fantastic way to get to know various national cuisines and different cultures during your studies!

4.6. STUDENT COUNSELLORThe student counselor is available for students who wish to discuss health concerns or social issues. Any medical problems that may prevent students from attending class will need to be reported immediately tothestudentcounselorandtheFrontoffice.

Onlymedicationprescribedbyadoctoriscoveredbyyourhealthinsurance.Dentalcareisnotincludedinthecoverage.Allmedicalbillsshouldbeforwardedtotheschool’sStudentAdministrationcoordinatorand must not be directly paid by the student.
