The vision of the Student Success Center at Le Roy Jr.-Sr. High
School is that every student will acquire the academic, career,
and personal/social skills to reach their fullest educational
potential and successfully manage their lives as healthy,
responsible, competent, and productive citizens who
respect themselves and others. Our comprehensive school
counseling program assists students with college and career
development, academic development, and personal/social
development.
Our Vision
Planning for life after high school is very exciting. There are
many wonderful possibilities for students to explore. At the
same time, planning for the future can be overwhelming. Our
hope is that this guide helps families feel more confident and
prepared throughout the career and college planning process.
This guide should help answer common questions about this
process. Your counselor is an invaluable resource and is
available to help you along the way.

Naviance is our comprehensive 7-12 college and career
readiness program that helps align student strengths and
interests to postsecondary goals, improving student outcomes
and connecting learning to life.
Naviance allows students to create a personalized plan that
helps them make the right decisions throughout their academic
journey, while connecting their interests to their potential
career paths. This ensures active participation in their own
academic success and opens their eyes to the wide world of
career opportunities. The career planning tools in Naviance
allow students to understand how their strengths, goals, skills,
and interests can lead to exciting careers.
Naviance
□ Start thinking about your life after high school, including
identifying your interests and talking to other people about careers that you might find interesting.
□ Get involved in school—participate in extracurricular
activities and start keeping a record of these experiences as well as community service and other accomplishments.
□ Start Naviance college and career activities.
□ 7th Grade—Begin your personalized Naviance Program.
This will include all things college and career related from interest inventories to career research projects.
□ 8th Grade—Create a four year high school plan—think
about what you would like to accomplish in the next 4 years. Make sure you know what courses are available and always ask questions. Work together with your Counselor and parents.
□ Attend meetings with your counselor to ensure you are
taking a challenging course load
□ Create a resume of accomplishments, extracurricular
activities, community service, and work experiences
Grades 7, 8 and 9
□ All sophomores tour GVEP to see career and tech
opportunities available to them in 11th grade
□ Continue involvement in extracurricular activities,
volunteer work, and summer opportunities and keep a record of these experiences
□ Begin touring college campuses in the spring and summer
□ Accelerated math students should consider taking the PSAT
in the fall
□ All sophomores should take Pre-ACT in the spring
□ Take part in all Naviance college and career activities
Grade 10
Did you know?
Students can begin earning college credit at Le Roy Jr.-Sr. High School as early as 9th grade.
□ Take the PSAT in the fall for practice for the SAT
□ Research college options by attending Le Roy’s Rochester
Area Colleges visitation, National College Fair, and various college nights and open houses and meet with college reps at school
□ Sign up to take the college admissions tests (SAT and ACT)
in the spring
□ Take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocation Aptitude
Battery), which helps students with career planning and military entrance, if desired
□ Take advantage of the job shadowing program throughout
the school year
□ Use Naviance to:
1. Update your resume of accomplishments, extracurricular activities, community service, and work experiences
2. Make a list of colleges that are of interest to you
3. Begin a search for financial aid/scholarship opportunities
□ Visit colleges and take campus tours
□ Attend the Le Roy Counselors’ Financial Aid Night program
Grade 11
□ Parents: attend the College Admissions Information Night
at the high school in the spring
□ Meet with your counselor to ensure that your course
schedule is challenging enough for your post-secondary goals
□ Take advantage of GCC’s Promise Plus Program for free
summer college course(s)
□ Consider applying to various GCC Tech Prep academies
□ Post-Graduate College Panel held in winter—former
students give their expertise on the college planning process
□ Take advantage of ongoing opportunities to meet with
military recruiters at Le Roy Jr.-Sr. High School
□ Register with NCAA Eligibility Center if considering
participating in Division I or Division II athletics
Grade 11
Did you know?
We offer 8 AP courses and 14 college credit courses.
□ Individual senior and parent informational meeting with
school counselor in the fall
□ Meet with college admissions representatives at Le Roy Jr.-
Sr. High School throughout the fall
□ Rochester Area Colleges Fair hosted by Le Roy Jr.-Sr. High
School in the fall
□ Take ASVAB
□ Take or retake SAT/ACT in the fall, as needed
□ Use Naviance to complete college admissions applications,
including any required essays and be aware of deadlines
□ Use Naviance to search and apply for scholarships
(regularly updated on the Le Roy Jr.-Sr. High School Counselors’ page at http://www.leroycsd.org/webpages/kronan/scholarships.cfm). Be aware of deadlines. Please give counselors two weeks.
□ Attend the Le Roy Counselors’ Financial Aid Night program
