To: Parents and Students of District 279 Project Copernicus From: Linda Perdaems, Woodland Principal Re: Use of Personal Electronic Devices Date: October 14, 2009 Osseo Area Schools, ISD #279, is exploring the use of personal electronic devices owned by the Student or the Student’s Parents for the purpose of furthering educational and professional goals of the Student consistent with the mission of the School District and school policies. Your child is a Student currently enrolled in “Project Copernicus”. To complete this pilot program, the School District encourages your child to bring personal electronic devices (e.g., laptops, netbooks) to school and use them to carry out class-related assignments as directed by School District staff. We remind you that the School District currently maintains, among others, Policy and Procedure 524—“Network/Internet Acceptable Use by Students” for the School District computer system and acceptable and safe use of the Internet, including electronic communications. This policy and all other school and District policies and procedures continue to remain in effect. Use of personal electronic devices in the pilot program will be permitted under the following requirements: 1. The Student may use a personal electronic device in the school building during school hours only during the class period of the pilot program. 2. The School District shall not be responsible for the initial cost or additional maintenance and repair costs of the Student’s personal electronic device. 3. The Student or the Student’s Parents shall be solely responsible for any one-time or periodic subscription, lease, license or other payments associated with the personal electronic device. 4. The Student is not allowed to load or download any unauthorized software or files onto a personal electronic device or the School District’s computers and networks. 5. The School District is not responsible for lost, stolen or damage to personal electronic devices. 6. Violations of School and School District policies shall subject the Student to discipline according to School and School District policies and procedures, and will result in the termination of the privilege to use personal electronic devices in the classroom.
