Dulcimer Troupers to perform Appalachian songs at April’s TLC

    ALTAR FLOWERS

The Altar Guild would love for you to consider scheduling a Sunday to provide High Altar flowers in honor or in memory of someone. Dedications are listed in our Order of Worship (and you are welcome to remain anonymous if you wish). You also may call the Church Office at 706-884-4635 to schedule a Sunday.

Not only are flowers a meaningful way to glorify God and enhance the worship experience, but they also serve another purpose as well: They are made into smaller arrangements and delivered to church members who are sick or homebound.

The Dulcimer Troupers will be the featured performers at the Thursday Lunch Club (TLC) on Thursday, April 2, in Wesley Hall.

Strumming their mountain dulcimers—handmade by American craftsmen—the 24 members of the musical group will play songs of the Appalachian Mountains.

The group’s members come from LaGrange, Peachtree City, Fayetteville, Carrollton, Pine Mountain, and Columbus. Their dulcimers’ sweet sounds can be heard each Thursday morning at our church during their weekly practices.

Founded in 1998 by Dean and Nancy Larson, the Dulcimer Troupers play for church groups, nursing homes, civic groups, Wellstar West Georgia Hospice, Callaway Gardens, The Azalea Storytelling Festival, and other venues.

The instrument originated in the Appalachian Mountains over 200 years ago. Individuals and dulcimer clubs across the country are keeping its music alive..

The cost of the luncheon is $6. Please make reservations by Tuesday, March 31, by contacting the Church Office at 706-884-4635 or [email protected].

The children at First Methodist are always active, learning, having fun, serving our community, and worshipping. In February, we made Valentines for our church family and LaGrange College students, third-fifth graders spent an afternoon at Williams Speedway racing around the track, and we all learned about how much we are loved by God.

Our annual Easter Egg Hunt is coming on Saturday, April 11. Your help is needed! Here’s how you can volunteer:

HELP FILL 6,000 PLASTIC EGGSBeginning Sunday, March 15, bags of empty plastic Easter eggs will be located in the Narthex and Wesley Hall. Please take one or more bags home and fill the eggs with prizes or wrapped candy. Return the filled Easter eggs to First Methodist by Sunday, April 5.

... AND HELP HIDE THEM ALL!Unfortunately, 6,000 Easter eggs won’t hide themselves! We’ll need help beforehand hiding them on April 11 before the 10:00 am Egg Hunt. Hiding them is a fun event in itself! We’ll also need help staking the field.

HELP DURING THE EGG HUNTThe Easter Egg Hunt, followed by the Stations of the Cross walk, will start at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 11. We need help that day staking the field, hiding the eggs, greeting visitors, giving out prizes, and manning the Stations of the Cross. This is a great way for First Methodist to show the love of Christ to our community. Please call or email Jeanne Jones to volunteer at 706-884-4635, ext. 209, or [email protected].
