Beach Blast:One of UNCW’s largest and oldest annual traditions. Students spend the day prior to classes at the beach and are provided with entertainment and food/non-alcoholic drinks in a fun, social atmosphere.

Average Attendance: 4,500

Convocation:This program serves as the official start to the new academic year as first-year students unveil the Class of 2021 flag and take a class photo, and all students then move to Trask Coliseum

for the formal ceremony.

Average Attendance: 2,000

Thirsty Tome:This partnership with Randall Library and Academic Affairs provides students an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the library, celebrate UNCW’s culture of writing, and engage in academic programming beyond the classroom.

Average Attendance: 125

UNCWorld’s Fair:This program highlights the various cultures of international students attending UNCW and is an opportunity to meet study-abroad ambassadors and find out about UNCW education-abroad in more than 50 countries.

Average Attendance: 1,200

Involvement Carnival:This is another of UNCW’s largest traditions and this year’s carnival will include over 350 tables featuring UNCW departments and student organizations, local businesses, religious organizations and community-service agencies.

Multi-Institutional Study of Leadership (MSL 2015)

• The National Clearing House of Leadership programs sponsors the MSL; Dr. John Dugan of Loyola University in Chicago provides oversight for the project

• 2015: 97 colleges and universities participated, 88 included in the benchmark

• 986 UNCW students completed the survey

• Based upon the Social Change Model of Leadership: • Individual Values• Group Values• Societal/Community Values
