THE UNIVERSITY!

Cyber universities are the future of education. Growing up faster

and faster in the countries where the development of high technologies

is considered as a key factor. The United States, Japan and South

Korea, use the Internet and the ITC to allow students to study at home.

It is a great improvement for long-life education and education for

all. The quality of courses is the same as the ones at a standard

university, programs are officially recognized in the same way and

allow the students to get the same diplomas.!

Located in Busan, South Korea, Hwashin Cyber University is the

first university to be approved through Korea's Higher Education

Act. It runs an efficient “Learning Management System” (Multilanguage

data processing system), a high technology platform (capacity of

10,000 students) and the latest audio visual/material. !

Contents are filmed in the studios of the University and a whole team of

designers works to optimize them, making them more interactive and

easy to use.!

By opening a new international department in 2012, the HSCU shows

its will to dedicate this technology to students all around the World,

to allow them to discover the treasures of Korea and its national

sport: Taekwondo. !

THE INTERNATIONAL TAEKWONDO DEPARTMENT!QUALITY CONTENTS, MODERN TOOLS!

The International Taekwondo Department was initially born from the

dream of two men to harmonize tradition and modernity of Korean

martial arts by using the technologies of the future. But it is also the

result of the hope to give access to a precise knowledge in the

specific field of sport performance to athletes and trainers all around

the World, whether they be athletes, great champions, modest

practitioners, or instructors teaching in the dojangs of their cities. !

The purpose International Taekwondo Department is finally and above

all to allow individuals to become better martial arts practitioners

and to become better individuals, since we believe that both aspects

are tightly linked together!

With a board of teachers including Korean as well as international

teachers, highly-qualified masters, former international

champions, and sport doctors, the International Taekwondo

Department uses HSCU#s advanced technology to create a new and

totally innovative method of learning martial arts and sports.!

With this aim, the Institute has developed an important international

network and works today in cooperation with prestigious

institutes such as the World Taekwondo Academy, the European

Taekwondo Union or the Kukkiwon.!

Vision of the International Taekwondo Department: !

OUR PARTNERS !

ETU!

THE INSTITUTIONS AND FEDERATIONS!

THE UNIVERSITIES!

In December 2011, the Hwashin Cyber University and

the European Taekwondo Union concluded an

agreement to promote educative programs to the

federations and their practitioners in Europe. By

doing so, the ETU acknowledges the quality of the

Hwashin Cyber Universi ty Internat ional

Taekwondo Department contents and supports

the development of Taekwondo in the educative

field. !

Some athletes engaged in Olympic preparation programs have benefited

from our personalized training camps. Our Institute also works in

cooperation with several universities, federations, and high level

professional teams.!

The International Taekwondo Department has several partnerships with

Korean universities to allow training sessions in some of the bests

Taekwondo departments in the country. Important agreements are

also in process, particularly with European universities. !

A TRUSTFUL RELATIONSHIP!

The International Taekwondo Department is strongly convinced that a

good education, in the same way as in martial arts, is linked to creating a

trustful relationship between the student and the instructor. This

mutual relationship makes us responsible for each other.!

!$Quality contents, courses taught by experts in their field,

supervised and organized well to ensure you the gain of new knowledge

in various fields!

!$Courses created with advanced technology and all the resources that

we have in our possession in order to transmit optimal knowledge to

you from your teachers, as well as an easy control of the platform!

!$An administrative and technical department available to answer

your questions and resolve your problems. !

!$Training camps on our platform in Busan run by experts in an ideal

environment for practicing martial arts or directly in your country

with a sufficient number of students!

!$A serious commitment in your studies to obtain the best results on

your exams and above all to become a better practitioner or a better

instructor!

!$To participate regularly to your classes and exams, even if it is

easier because you can choose when you want to study, and to respect

homework deadlines!

!$To respect rules and instructions during the training camps!

!$To take initiative, when you face a problem, technical or educational, to

tell our administrative department or your teachers!

CYBER-EDUCATION, HOW DOES IT WORK?!

THE ON-LINE PLATFORM, FUNCTIONING & POSSIBILITIES!

The courses are pre-recorded and available on-line on a dedicated

platform. This means that you do not need to have a webcam to follow

the courses and that the teacher will not be directly in front of you

during the class. Lessons work as interactive books, with texts,

videos, audio files, activities, exercises, etc. This system allows you to

choose when you want to study while completing a specific number of

courses each week. !

Ho Shin Sool!

You have access to a personal space on the platform where you can

work on the lessons of the week, where your progress is recorded,

where you can send your homework, ask the teachers questions, etc.!

You can also rewatch the previous courses as many times as you

want, download printable version of the lessons and audio files in

mp3 format. !

ESSENTIAL TRAINING CAMPS !

In order to match the cyber education with martial arts, it seemed

obvious to us that we had to set up training camps to verify the level

of the practitioners and to check if they learnt the on-line contents

correctly during the year. !

That is the reason why, in parallel with its cyber platform on Internet,

the International Taekwondo Department has also developed a

platform to welcome students on site in South Korea for training

camps. They are set up during two or three weeks at the end of the

year and taught by the teachers of the Institute. !

If we have enough students from the same country, we can also

send one of our experts to do the training camp on site. !

MARTIAL ARTS PROGRAMS OF HSCU!

EXAMPLE OF ONE YEAR OF STUDIES!

One year of studies is generally as follows:!

From March to June, the student follows his courses on Internet and

passes his exams (normally two weeks each semester, one in April and

one in June). !

July and August are summer holiday period or training camp period for

students who wish to take it in summer .!

The second semester is from September to December. The winter

training period is from December to February. After the camp, the

results are sent to the student, so he will know if he has passed or

graduated. !

Story of a student, Arber Bajra!

My application to HSCU sounds like a success for me. I think that

every Taekwondo-in in the World will long for the studies proposed by this University. Its dynamic is based on the heart of

Taekwondo and courses are done by true professionals of this

art, that gave me a huge desire to choose this program. This new

method of learning is the first in the World of this kind in martial

arts but also in sport and I believe in the success of these programs. Now I will focus on these studies to obtain this

diploma recognized by the World !!

THE PROGRAMS!

HOW TO CHOOSE?!

TWO DIPLOMAS OF TAEKWONDO OR AN INDIVIDUAL COURSE SELECTION!

The International Taekwondo Department proposes two diplomas in

Taekwondo:!

•$The International Bachelor"s Degree in 3 or 4 years, recognized all

around the World as an official undergraduate university diploma

(license in Europe).!

•$The Martial Arts & Combat Sports Excellency Diploma (MACSED)

in 1 year, that includes contents exclusively about martial arts and

combat sports, mainly focused on performance. !

If you are interested in a specific subject without committing yourself

into a complete program, you also have the possibility of choosing

specific units among those that we propose. !

Opening the first programs in Taekwondo, we hope to make quality

contents widely available, but the International Taekwondo Department

also hopes to use its special position in South Korea to develop other

programs over the next few years, particularly Hapkido, starting in

2014.!

It depends on your objectives, your availability, your current

education level and your commitment in your martial art. !

If you want to build or improve your career around Taekwondo and

Korea, the Bachelor"s degree will allow you to learn the Korean

language and culture as well as contents on numerous Taekwondo

contents. It creates more possibilities for your future and an

international recognition as a graduate by other universities in the

World. !

If you want to gain a new knowledge on martial arts and combat sports

and obtain a certificate in our Institute, the MACSED is the perfect

program for you.!

Finally, if you are particularly interested in one specific subject, such as

dietetics, for example, you can choose a specific course by unit. !

year to validate the subject. They are used to evaluate the level of

practitioners and to check the knowledge learned during the year.

Training camps last two or three weeks and training sessions are led

by the International Taekwondo Department teachers, a minimum of

two or three times a days for 2 or 3 hours. !

Camps are generally organized at the International Taekwondo

Department campus in Busan, South Korea, but can also be set

18! 19!

As the training camps last less than 30 days, it is not necessary for most

foreigners to get a visa to come to South Korea. For the others, you will

have to ask a tourist visa to your embassy (a list of countries with an

international agreement with South Korea can be found on the Korea

Tourism Organization website).!

As a cyber university that allows long distance studies, the Hwashin Cyber

University does not provide any document for obtaining a long-stay visa. !

All practitioners must buy a travel insurance to participate in the training

camps and must send a copy to the International Taekwondo Department

before their departure.!

The insurance must cover all potential damages concerning people and

property and relieve the Hwashin Cyber University of all responsibilities

and financial compensation. !

ENJOYING BUSAN!

Located between the sea and the mountains, Busan, 2nd biggest city in

Korea benefits from better weather than the capital, Seoul, and!

Busan is as famous for its beaches and seaside coffee shops as for its

popular districts where karaoke and bars are plentiful. In the city center,

you will find the largest shopping mall in the World, Shinsaegae, a

paradises for shopping addicts. Far less expensive, the International

market of Nampo presents a more traditional aspect of popular Asian

markets. !

The city also has many Buddhist temples, among them Beomosa,

which is famous for its Bulmudo monks, and is sometimes compared to

the Shaolin temple of China. !

Having explained how to follow your class at home, you will find here some

general information about Korea to help you to prepare for your training

camp. !

The official currency of Korea is won, the official language is Korean. After

arriving in Korea, you can exchange your money at airports, in banks,

hostels or casinos. Most international credit cards allow you to withdraw

money from ATM and are accepted in many shops and restaurants. !

1Euro & 1500 Won, subject to change depending on the rate exchange.!

While housing is known to be particularly expensive in Korea, you can eat

generous meals for a very cheap price, if you are ready to eat local food.

For example, you can find a big meal with rice, vegetables and its side

dishes for 3,500 to 7,000 won. !

A bus ticket costs on average 2000 won, 1080 won if you buy a transport

card. These cards can be bought in most small supermarkets and can be

also used for the subway. !

wonderful scenery. Famous for its

seafood specialties, its International Film

festival and its sunny beaches, it is a

pleasant place to live and train. The

Hwashin Cyber University is located

near the city center, in a well served

district. With a large network of buses

and subway lines, this city of 3 million

inhabitants holds a great deal of

surprises for its visitors. &
