Students learn about community-driven processes, work on multidisciplinary teams, present and facilitate meetings, and exercise their design skills. CDAC design teams work solely at the conceptual design level and do not address cost estimates or construction details. Our Design Review Panel, an interdisciplinary panel of design professionals, often reviews student design work and offers professional and practical feedback. “CDAC gives students an opportunity to expand on the curriculum that they learn in the studio and apply it in a practical way. It provides an intermediate step between academia and a career in a professional setting. I think it’s a great opportunity for an interdisciplinary work experience for students.” - Caitlin Edenfield, BLA “CDAC was a large part of my learning experience as a student at Virginia Tech. I learned so much through my studies in the LA program, but my education would not have been the same if it were not for my positions with CDAC.” - Kaitlyn Illmensee, BLA “I enjoyed working at CDAC because I felt like I had so much freedom to design something that interested me. I found it extremely valuable to be able to work on a project with real world constraints that also had feedback along the way from the client.” - Colbi Young, B.Arch
