UG survey of ICT uses & attitudes
• the picture in March of 2011• 580 respondents; age & gender profile as expected• very confident; but 2.4% are “very apprehensive” • 99% own a computer• 93% have a laptop or netbook device• only 28% of laptop owners plan to bring them to campus• 90% have fast internet connection from residence• eBook reader 8%; tablet 5%; smart phone 50%• 88% using social networks daily for personal purposes• 44% using social networks daily for academic purposes
School of Engineering: Students use of Cloud Technologies in academic assignments
• Survey run in December 2011, with 197 respondents.• UG and Taught PG• 94.9% answered yes to using social media and file sharing sites
to facilitate academic assignments.• Facebook groups 75.4% , Google Docs 55.4%, Dropbox 63.1%.• Mostly for file sharing 92.3% and collaborating on documents
57.9%. • Frequency of use, weekly 28.2%, all the time 36.4%.• Only 1% state that University staff setup or created the tool/s
they used.• Evidence of sophisticated co-creation of materials completely
outside of University ICT provision.
