STUDENT-DRIVEN INQUIRY How will you provide opportunities for student voice and choice? INSTRUCTIONAL PLANNING USING THE CIRCLE OF INQUIRY The parts of the Inquiry Cycle fit together like puzzle pieces, and are described below, along with the key questions that prompt students to reflect on their learning. WE WONDER In this this stage, teachers ‘tune in’ to what the students know and have students wonder questions. Students are guided by these questions: What do I know about the topic? What ideas am I interested in? What are my wonder questions? WE EXPLORE In this stage, the students develop a plan and gather information. Students are guided by these questions: How am I going to go about answering my wonder question? Where might I go to find information? What resources will I use? WE SHARE In this stage, students sort out what they have learned and share what they have learned with their classmates. Student are guided by these questions: What was the big learning moment of my WE REFLECT In this stage, students ‘go further’ into their own thinking. Students reflect on the following: What have I learned that I didn’t know before? 1
