STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT
STUDENT DISCIPLINE
It is the responsibility of each student to conduct themselves in accordance to BISD’s Student Code of Conduct and Stell MS rules, as well as classroom rules and expectations.
STUDENT CONDUCT STANDARDSEach student is expected to: 1. Demonstrate courtesy and respect for others, even when
others do not. 2. Behave in a responsible manner, always exercising self-
discipline.3. Attend all classes, regularly and on time. 4. Prepare for each class; take appropriate materials and
assignments to class. 5. Meet District and campus standards of grooming and dress.6. Obey all campus and classroom rules. 7. Respect the rights and privileges of other students, teachers,
and other District staff. 8. Respect the property of others; including District property and
facilities.9. Cooperate with or assist the school staff in maintaining safety,
order, and discipline.10. Adhere to the requirements of the Student Code of Conduct.
ATTENDANCE
Students will be sent a court warning notice after three unexcused absences in any six weeks grading period. *Skipping a class results in one unexcused absence for that period!!
Students with nine or more absences during any semester will be issued court notice to appear with parent in front of court appointed judge. Court judgment may include up to $500 fine and/or community service.
TARDIES
Students must get to class on time!
Coaches/Sponsors will be notified.
Parents will be notified.
Teacher/Parent conference will be held.
Continued tardiness will result in further disciplinary action including, but not limited to, Saturday Club, ISS, OSS, and possible BAC placement
HALL PASS POLICY
Any student not in class during instructional time must have an approved Stell Middle School (SMS) approved pass.
Each pass is color coded per designated building area. This will assist with school safety.
Do not ask your teacher to go somewhere before the tardy bell rings if you will be late to class. (Teachers will not allow you to go without an approved pass.)
Hallways should be clear and all students are to be inside there scheduled classroom receiving instruction.
If you are not in your assigned classroom, then you are liable to receive school discipline.
ACADEMIC PROGRESS
Know this:
Six weeks averages
50% Daily grades (minimum of 6 daily)
50% (minimum of 4 assessments per six weeks)
Major/Test grades!! Make sure you are studying and passing your tests!!
Make sure you schedule a re-test with your teacher for any test grade below 70%!

MAKE UP WORK POLICY
Students will be given the same number of days as the number of days he/she was absent to turn in make up work.
Students must make arrangements for make up work on the day he/she returns to school. The teacher and student can decide when work is due.
Students absent only on a KNOWN test day will be expected to take the test upon return.
MAKE UP WORK POLICY CONT.
If a student has been absent the day prior to an announced test and if nothing new has been covered, the student will be expected to take the test at the regularly scheduled time.
If the student has been absent for two or more days, the student will immediately make arrangements with the teacher for the make-up tests.

Any student who does not appear for a prearranged make-up test or does not meet his prearranged due date for other work may receive a zero (0) on that test, work, or re-testing.
Any student missing work due to participation in extracurricular activities must make prior arrangements with the teacher for work that will be missed.
ACADEMIC DISHONESTY
A student found to have engaged in academic dishonesty shall be subject to grade penalties on assignments or tests and disciplinary penalties in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. Academic dishonesty includes but not limited to cheating or copying the work of another student, plagiarism, and unauthorized communication between students during an examination. The penalty for cheating will be a zero for work involved.

DRESS CODE
Campus administration may at any time make a reasonable determination that an item of clothing, style of manner of dress or grooming, or accessory poses an unacceptable risk or disruption to the instructional environment because it is inappropriately distracting etc.

State law requires that shoes be worn at all times. For your safety, flip flops or shoes without heel straps and steel-toed boots or shoes are not allowed.
Articles of clothing that display gang symbols, obscenities, suggestive slogans, nudity, crime, violence, drugs, alcohol, or which promote the use of tobacco are prohibited.
GROOMING• Hair and facial hair will be properly groomed.
• Distracting hairstyles and/or hair colors, as determined by campus administration on a case-by-case basis, will not be permitted. (ie pink, purple, green ,etc. This includes highlights/etensions of said unallowable colors)
• No exposed tattoos or facial/body piercing will be permitted, other than pierced earrings of a reasonable size and number. Females may only have one piercing per ear.
• Males are not allowed to wear earrings under any circumstances.
ILLEGAL WEAPONS AND ILLEGAL DRUGS Possession of a controlled substance or any other type of illegal drug are removal offenses
Mandatory Expulsion to either JJAEP or BAC.
JJAEP: Possession of a weapon or uses or makes threats towards another student or school official.
BAC: Student found under the influence of a controlled substance or in possession of marijuana.

UNDER THE INFLUENCE
Under the influence is a removable offense. Under the influence shall mean that a student’s mental and/or physical faculties are noticeably impaired by exhibiting characteristics of public intoxication as defined in case law pursuant to the Penal Code. Such characteristics include, but are not limited to, slurred or incoherent speech, staggering, bloodshot eyes, uncontrollable or violent behavior, or a smell or odor of a controlled substance (e.g., marijuana), an intoxicant, or alcoholic beverage. Under the influence does not require that a student be legally intoxicated.

K-9 PROGRAM
The District utilizes dogs that are able to detect narcotics and weapons contraband. Although it is not the intent of the program to have students arrested, students will risk arrest and prosecution if they bring contraband drugs or weapons to school grounds.
K-9 SEARCHES
All contraband search locations will be unannounced. When the contraband team arrives at the campus, the team will go directly to the principal’s office or a designated area. The search will be conducted with the assistance of the principal or his/her designee.
VERY IMPORTANT
In order to avoid problems with the law, IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT IT IS, DON’T ACCEPT IT!!
If you are asked to hold something for someone else and you're unsure of what it is or you know it’s illegal, DON’T DO IT! JUST SAY NO!

If you know of an illegal activity or bullying…
please don’t be a bystander, report it to your teacher or a staff member. We are here to keep everyone safe
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Students must follow the Student Code of Conduct at any school activity held off/on campus.

GAME AND PRESENTATION CONDUCT
Students should not use profanities during games or presentations.
Students are not to “boo” opposing school teams.
Students are to be respectful and listen to class or assembly presenter.
Student will be removed from a game or assembly if this conduct occurs.
CRIMINAL TRESPASS
Any student who enters or remains on district property without the consent of a district representative after having received written or oral notice to depart shall be subject to prosecution for criminal trespass.
GANGS / GANG AFFILIATIONS
A student may be placed in a Disciplinary Alternative Education program if the student is participating as a member or soliciting another student to become a member of a gang while on school property.

GANG PARAPHERNALIA No handkerchiefs, bandanas, and other gang related
clothing attire allowed.
Rosaries are to be worn under the shirt and not visible.
Tagging on notebooks, school property or yourself is not allowed.
Gang related items may be confiscated by administration and not returned.
PROPERTY OFFENSES
Students may not damage or vandalize school property.
Students caught will be charged accordingly and may be removed to BAC.
PERSONAL ITEMS
BISD schools (Stell Middle School) are not responsible for the loss, damage or theft of personal belongings that are brought to school.
Personal items include, but are not limited to the following: Cell phones, IPods, IPads, MP3s, cameras, laptops, etc.
CELL PHONES/IPODS/EAR PHONESCells phones, IPods and Ear Phones are not allowed on campus at Stell Middle School.
Above mentioned items will be confiscated and will not be returned to students.
BACKPACKS
In the best interest of student safety, clear, transparent, or mesh backpacks shall be permitted.
Female purses may be no larger than 11in x 14in
SCHOOL BUS BEHAVIOR
Riding the school bus is a privilege and students who do not conduct themselves properly may lose the privilege of riding the bus.
Must follow driver’s directions at all times!
Must ride bus assigned to them.
Be Courteous, No profanity accepted.
A transportation referral may result in suspension of all bus privileges.
