Students are being recognized by their teachers for showing GRIT and are earning mustangs that they deliver to the office and get hung up in the lunchroom. Each week we are recognizing one student who is nominated by teachers and administrators as "The Gritty Kid of the Week". The student is announced during the morning announcements and has their picture hung in the main hallway for the week. Our "Gritty Kids" recognized this week: Gabby Pickel-Novotny-----Mrs. Reineke Lifetouch Picture Re-Take Day – Thursday, October 26 Order forms must be received on or before your child has their picture taken. You may also order pictures online at mylifetouch.com before or up to 48 hours after picture day. Please note that any order forms turned in after your child's picture is taken results in a delay in receiving their photos. Those picture packets typically arrive two weeks later than the school packets arrive. Girls on the Run Girls on the Run at Maxey offers after-school programming that combines friendship, fun and a training for a 5K to promote healthy lifestyles and self-respect in third- through fifth-grade girls. The program incorporates exercise, education and mentoring to create a positive athletic experience for young girls. Girls on the Run teams meet for 75 minutes twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday) to play running games and discuss topics that matter to pre-teen girls. Along the way, the girls learn about themselves, their teammates and their ability to do more than they think they can. The season begins on Tuesday, August 22 and runs through the beginning of November. The Lincoln GOTR 5K will be Oct. 28 at Air Park in Lincoln (open only to currently enrolled GOTR girls and their Run Buddies). The tentative start time is 9:45 a.m. Families can register online at GOTRNebraska.org.

Dear Maxey Parents & Students,

Welcome to the Fall 2017 Maxey after school program. This program offers a wide range of classes to further enrich our students.

* Classes start the week of October 2nd and run for six weeks (please note dates as Mon. & Thur. classes do not run consecutively and the knitting class will start Oct. 11).

* Classes must have a minimum of six students to fund the class. Any class with less than six students will be evaluated by the teacher to see if it can still be funded. If the class is cancelled you will be notified to either switch to another class or be issued a refund.

* Tuition is $35/class. Some classes may require a materials/supply fee so the instructors can purchase materials/supplies relevant to the class.

* On their scheduled class day, your child will go directly to the gym when school is dismissed for the day. There they will line up by their after school class. From there your child will be accompanied to their assigned classroom by the instructor.

* Classes dismiss at 4:30 pm. Family Service students will report to the cafeteria. Other students will be dismissed through the front doors. Please be prompt in picking up your child; we want to make sure all students are safe.

* Go to maxeypto.org to register for classes. You may use a computer in the school if you need access to the internet.

* Registration ends Sunday, September 24th. Classes will be filled in order of receipt of registration, so register early!

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A VOLUNTEER DURING THE 3:30-4:30 CLASS TIMES! It’s simply making sure the students get to the gym, take the attendance from the teachers and then make sure kids get picked up afterwards. YOUR KIDS CAN TAKE THEIR CLASS FOR FREE while you spend an hour relaxing, reading, doing work…. Contact me for more details.

Please email any questions to [email protected].

Sincerely,

Jessica Erstad After School Class Coordinator
