SANZA -THUMB PIANO - MBIRA

Where did the idea come from?

Let’s observe some student traces

Page 6: Structure of suggested activities. MUSIC Task .

Observations following validation in class

• Question to be clarified: Why are there low and high sounds? • Replace the why with how.

• Difficulty for certain students to compose their experiments to relate to the hypothesis.

• Integrate a theoretical capsule about hypotheses and the notion of variables.

• The activity was designed in 2 parts that could be used individually.

• Decision to integrate the experimentation and the instrument building in order to make the scientific experiments coherent.

Observations following validation in class

• Tendency for the students to consider too many factors at a time.

« I will put macaroni in a big tin can with aluminium foil and I will also strike on wood. »

• This task becomes very interesting when integrating the notion of variables.

• Explanation of the notion of variables in the teacher’s guide.

Our educational aim

• Experience an experimental process• The importance of considering one variable• Build a musical instrument• Reflect on this instrument considering the

experiment carried out• Place the scientific concepts related to the

musical instrument• Evaluate several competencies

A. Labelle
Tous les points commencent par un verbe sauf le deuxieme. La diapo serait plus coherente si c'etait tous des verbes.

Evaluation of competencies for this taskConstraints imposed upon you:• 1 hour of science and technology/week• 25 students to evaluate and observe• 3 competencies in the science and technology program,

including 10 evaluation criteria, without counting more than 50 criteria in all other subjects combined

To make the teacher’s life easier, what can we evaluate in this task and with which tools?

The purpose of this exercise is to share our points of view…
