Intro

Introduction

The BAPP Group of Companies founded in 1972 has now

become the largest independent stockist and distributor of

industrial fasteners and associated products in the UK.

The BAPP branch network covers total supply throughout the

UK from our twelve locations. As well as same and next day

delivery to our OEM customer base, each branch has it’s own

Tool and Fixing centre.

The BAPP Export Division located at group head office

has vast experience in shipping throughout the world

and can cater to any demands for both major and small

construction projects.

Designation system of property classesThe property class symbols, indicating the most important mechanical properties, consist of two figures, one on either side of a dot.For example,10.9. The first figure indicates 1/100 of the nominal tensile strength in N/mm2 (see Rm in the table). So property class 10.9 has a tensile strength of 10 x 100 = 1000 N/mm2. The second figure indicates 10 times the ratio between lower yield stress Rel (or proof stress Rp0,2) and nominal tensile strength Rm (yield stress ratio). So at property class 10.9 the second figure 9 = 10 x The multiplication of these two figures will give 1/10 of the yield stress in N/MM2, SO 10 X 9 = 1/10 X 900 N/mm2.

Washer plates are produced from mild steel plate (S275). All holes are

produced on a DIA + 2mm Tolerance on both square and round hole.

As well as singular holed plates, we can produce a range

of multiple holed plates to customer specification.

Washer Plates

Bolt Extenders

Bapp produce bolt extenders specifically for the structural engineering industry.

All bolt extenders are produced as Grade 8.8 (40cr mo4) as standard.

T.C. Bolts, improved type of heavy hexagonal structural bolts, were developed for more simplified bolt fastening and more accurate performance and offer such excellent characteristics as shown below because no fastening technique of high level is required:

1. Controlled clamping force can be ensured.2. Completion of bolt fastening can be confirmed by the shear-off of the notched end of the bolt.3. Fastening can easily be done by electric wrench.4. Noiseless installation and no need of wrench adjustment.5. The bolt does not rotate when fastening.6. No apprehension of bolts being left unfastened.

Product Specification

These round steel bars can have either clean-sawn or cropped ends. Intended

for use in expansion or contraction joints, a wide range of standard sizes are

available for immediate delivery. Available in mill length to 12,000mm/40ft and

upto 64mm/21/2 diameters, before delvery to site, the tie rods may be cut to a

specified length.

Available Grades

Bapp holds stocks of mild steel (4.6), high tensile (8,8) and stainless steel grade A2

and A4. We also offer materials B7, B8 and other exotic non-ferrous materials.

Corrosion Protection

Corrosion protection is one of the most important elements in providing long-term

durability of any tie rod installation. There are a number of possibilities depending

on the site conditions and degree of exposure. Examples of successful corrosion

protection currently in use are:

• Electro Zinc Plating

• Galvanizing

• Sherardizing

• Epoxy Coating

Corrosion Protection Coatings

Corrosion mainly affects the durability of fasteners, (i.e. their lasting strength, appearance and ease of dismantling) and may be caused by exposure to a particular environment during service. Depending upon the environmental condition one of the following coatings or finishes is recommended to enhance the life of fasteners.

Zinc plating - BS 3382 Part 2, DIN267 Part 9, ISO 4042

Usually bright finish on steel screws. Used for short term protection of all steel fasteners. Satisfactory for standard threads.

Hot dip zinc (galvanising) - BS 729 Part 1, DIN267 Part 10, ISO 1461

Heavy zinc deposits 43 microns minimum on steel for long term outdoor protection. Uneven coating unsuitable for many small diameter threaded parts.

Sherardizing is a diffusion process in which particles are heated in the presence of zinc dust. The process is normally carried out in a slowly rotating closed container at temperatures ranging from 320-500 degrees centigrade.

The resultant zinc/iron alloyed coating is subsequently zinc phosphated or chromated, resulting in a clean, passivated, matt grey surface. The coating closely follows the contours of the base material and uniform coatings are produced on articles, including those of intricate shapes. Carbon steels, low alloy steels sintered steels, malleable grey iron and cast iron are suitable for sherardizing. The process does not give rise to hydrogen embrittlement.

Sherardizing benefits include:

• Long Term Corrosion Protection • Coating thickness range available 15-80µm • Salt spray resistance Sherardizing - 96 hours Sherardizing 2000 - 500 hours

• Damage resistant • Uniform coating

Sherardizing BS4921 Class 1

Fasteners are subject to ever-increasing demands with regard to their reliability and resistance to corrosion. These stringent requirements present serious dilemmas for you. On one hand, strict reliability requirements mean that you are forced to use high quality fasteners (quality class 10.9 and higher). On the other hand, these fasteners are expected to have the same minimum corrosion resistant properties as the other parts of the product.

Until recently your choice was restricted to less reliable solutions.

DACROMET® 500 LC

If electro-galvanizing is chosen for high quality fasteners there is a concious risk of fractures as a result of hydrogen embrittlement. If you choose a more reliable surface coating such as thermal galvanizing of screw threaded products, you are not only restricted in terms of dimensions but also in terms of the fit of the internal and external screw thread. In order to carry out thermal galvanizing of relatively thick layers of zinc, some material has to be removed before galvanization. This means that the flank covering between the internal and external screw thread is lower which has negative consequences on the load capacity.

However if you specifically choose electroplating of a zinc coating and you want to suppress completely risk as a result of hydrogen embrittlement, then the choice of high quality fasteners is out of the question. In this case you will have to rely on lower quality fasteners with greater dimensions as a result. The new DACROMET® 500 LC Grade A non electrolytically applied surface coating eliminates all of these restrictive and high risk considerations.
