At 160,000 square ft (the equivalent size of three football pitches) and capable of processing up to 100,000 tonnes of material a year, our structural steel processing plant is the biggest to be built in the UK in the last 20 years. The plant will be the most advanced processing centre in Europe and will be fully functional in early 2012.

The Processing plant was designed from the bottom up to be fully automated, cutting operating costs by up to 25%. Every process has been streamlined to reduce manual handling. From the moment steel is transferred from ship to shore, our state of the art 10 tonne magnetic cranes automatically move the material to dedicated storage bays.

When the steel is required for processing it is then moved on to the conveyor system where it is automatically guided through our plant by our CNC system to be cut, mitred, sawn, drilled, coped, notched, part marked and shotblasted & primed.

the problemAll modern structural steel buildings are made with profiles (beams, channels, angles, hollow section) that are welded or bolted to the other.Straight and mitred cuts can be carried out with modern sawing systems but shaped cuts on profile edges, flange or web have always been a time consuming problem for fabricators world wide.These types of cuts need to be very precise which makes them prone to extended time scales and manual errors.
