Structural Steel Fabrication Tracking Development of the IMS Structural Steel Tracking application was completed in 2002, to be utilized on the UE1 Syncrude project. 76,000 spools were to be fabricated in 8 shops across Canada, with an additional 9 structural steel shops fabricating steel mark pieces from Canada, England and the U.S. for the module assembly. With over 1.8 million mark pieces of steel for this project it was critical to track each mark piece for fabrication and delivery. As more clients such as Suncor Energy and Colt/Meg Worley began to use the structural steel application, more features were added. The module planning application allows clients to view and report on the mark piece status for each module. Since the UE1 project, IMS has linked structural steel data from 16 steel fabrication shops.
