• Students may change levels within the first 3 days of the semester…with parent permission…Beyond this, changes must be teacher initiated and only for students who are struggling with D’s or F’s
• Will have Required summer readings and/or projects
P.E. Waiver• A way to complete one’s Physical Education
requirement.
• Students receive no credit and no grade.
• Student may waive P.E. requirement by completing two full seasons of SHS athletics, cheerleading or marching band.
• Physical Education Waiver Application and more information can be found on the SHS Guidance Website.
• Students may not mix P.E. Waiver with Physical Education classes to meet the requirement. Must have 2 waivers or 2 courses, not one of each.
Credit Flexibility• Credit Flexibility allows students to earn credit by
demonstrating academic and skill level performance through a variety of educational options.
• Approved credit awarded through these guidelines will be posted on a student’s transcript and counted as required graduation credit in the related subject area or as an elective.
• A student must complete the Credit Flexibility Application and obtain approval PRIOR to beginning the coursework.

Athletic Eligibility
• All incoming 9th graders must pass a minimum of 5 classes during the 4th quarter of the 8th grade year
• If a student earns less than 2.0 GPA during the 4th quarter of the 8th grade year, student will be put on an Academic contract
• At SHS, must pass 5 classes (not including P.E.) the quarter preceding the season
• FALL SPORTS: CROSS-COUNTRY, SOCCER, FOOTBALL,
GOLF, VOLLEYBALL, GIRLS TENNIS
PSEOP Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program
• Get High School and College Credit at the Same Time • Students must apply and be accepted by the Post-
Secondary Institution (requires specific GPA and Placement Test score)
• Students must have a high school GPA in order to apply
• Both student and parent MUST attend Mandatory Meeting on March 6, 2014 1:00pm or 6:30 pm SHS Auditorium
Hints for Parents• Support Student’s use of Planner• Check the PASS Program• Establish regular time and place for Homework• Check for teacher websites• Students MUST become “Active Studiers”…
1. “Reading Over Notes” does NOT work
2. Must make note cards or flashcards
3. Review often and out loud
4. Make Lists of materials to review
5. Moving around while studying can help
Things to remember when selecting courses:
• The high school has an 8 period day• Select English, Math, Science, & Social Studies• 5 class periods minimum (Not including P.E.)• Lunch 1 period• Electives• Maximum of 7 classes• Teacher recommendations are the best guide to
choosing the right courses
Scheduling Do’s & Don’ts:
• DO look at YOUR History• DON’T select courses based on friends• DO look at your ability – realistically• DON’T select “easy” courses• DO look at your future plans• DON’T expect to be able to easily
change your electives next year
