Striving for excellence in prunes and golden raisins

Interview with Joaquin Tagle Edwards, General Manager and CEO and Rodrigo Lecaros Monge, Sales & Marketing Manager, Goodvalley

After one year processing and exporting our own prunes, we are proud on how we have developed our export business. Traceability, quality and best service is our aim.

In our brand new factory in Colchagua Valley, Chile - the newest and most modern prunes’ processing plant of our country, built last year – we receive plums that come from own orchards, which are then tunnel-dried, sized, tenderized, pitted, and packed; this traceability make us unique: we are present from the tree until the final product.

Excelentes ciruelas y pasas rubias

“Desde hace un año procesamos y exportamos nuestras propias ciruelas y estamos muy orgullosos sobre la evolución de nuestro negocio de exportación. Trazabilidad, calidad y el mejor servicio son nuestros objetivos.

En nuestra nueva fábrica en el Valle de Colchagua en Chile, la más moderna planta de procesado para ciruelas en todo Chile, procesamos las ciruelas que llegan desde nuestras propias plantaciones. Allí se secan en hornos, se clasifican por calibres, se tiernizan, descarozan y empaquetan. Esto nos hace tan especiales: estamos presentes desde el árbol hasta el producto final.

En lo que a calidad se refiere contamos con nuestros 30 hornos de secado de gas propano que nos permiten un mejor control sobre la humedad, conseguimos ciruelas más claras y en el proceso de descarozado

only company of Chileprunes Association that has 100% compliance of weight and size of prunes exported to our customers. This makes us the most serious and reliable company of the association on this regard.

Our volume is more than 3,000 t prunes. During this second year processing and exporting by ourselves, we have consolidated our operations, worked on team building and got the best product we can achieve.

Our goal is to satisfy the needs of our customers, and, as we say here in Chile “put the first seeds in the grounds” for a lot of happy customers. We don’t want to be everywhere and to sell to everybody; we are constantly looking for serious customers who really appreciate our quality, no matter where they are, or how big or small they are.

Most of our clients know us already from our ad-vertisements, from the Anuga fair and from visits to Europe, Asia and Latin America; some of them have visited our processing plant in the Colchagua valley and they have got impressed on our facilities. We have some of the chocolate and yoghurt factories as customers, who are very strict in terms of trace-ability, quality and pit fragments’ tolerance.

Producimos más de 3.000 tn de ciruelas. En el segundo año que nosotros mismos procesamos y exportamos, hemos consolidado nuestro trabajo, hemos apostado por la formación de un equipo y elaborado el mejor producto que hemos podido. Nuestro objetivo ha sido dar satisfacción a nuestros clientes – y nosotros aquí en Chile decimos “hemos sembrado las primeras semillas”. No queremos estar por todas partes ni vender a todos. Siempre buscamos clientes serios, que realmente se interesen por nuestra calidad. Para ello es irrelevante donde estén estos clientes o lo grande que sean.

La mayoría de los clientes ya nos conocen de nuestra publicidad en la Anuga o de nuestras visitas a Europa, Asia y Latinoamérica. Algunos también ya han podido visitar nuestra planta de procesado en el Valle de Colchagua y han quedado sorprendidos. Entre nuestros clientes también contamos con elaboradores de chocolates y yogures que trabajan

After one year exporting, we have presence in Europe, Asia, North America, South America and Africa, being in 18 countries and working with the most demanding customers. In 2014 we have been to several fairs: Prodexpo (Russia), Food&Hotel (Singapore), Thaifex (Thailand), SIAL (China), World Food (Russia), SIAL (Paris), and some others. Besides prunes, this year we have begun exporting golden raisins jumbo size – Thompson seedless variety. Colour, moisture, size and sulphur content are parameters we have fully controlled. We are planting grapes especially for jumbo golden raisins. This is a particular interesting project, as most grapes for drying are taken from what is left from fresh exports. We grow grapes only for raisins, not for fresh grapes.

Our aim with jumbo golden raisins is the same as for prunes, striving for excellence and being the best source for both products in Chile and, why not, in the whole world.

Tras este primer año de ex-portación nuestros productos llegan ya a Europa, Asia, Norteamérica, Sudamérica y África – suministramos a los clientes más exigentes en 18 países. En 2014 hemos estado además presentes en diversas ferias.

Además de ciruelas este año hemos comenzado con la exportación de pasas rubias calibre Jumbo de la variedad Thompson Seedless. El color, la humedad, el calibre y el contenido en azufre se controlan constante-mente. Las uvas las cultivamos especialmente para la elaboración de pasas Jumbo. Este proyecto es para nosotros especialmente emocionante, pues las pasas en la mayoría de los casos se elaboran con sobrantes de la venta en fresco. Pero nosotros producimos las uvas exclusivamente para la elaboración de pasas. En pasas perseguimos el mismo objetivo que en ciruelas: nos esforzamos por conseguir una excelente calidad y queremos convertirnos en el mejor proveedor de este producto en Chile, quizás incluso del mundo.”
