Lights! Camera! Action! All is set for the musical event of the year this Thursday night and Friday. Students have been rehearsing and it is all coming together. Costumes, backdrops and music are ready thanks to all the volunteers. I look forward to seeing everyone there supporting our students. Parents please understand that no filming is allowed due to the privacy request of some families. Naturally, you are free to take photo’s of your own child. I am sure it will be a terrific night for all. Senior Camp was a thoroughly enjoyable time. Students were challenged physically, mentally and emotionally through the activities. Our instructor Tony was awesome and related each activity to overcoming the challenges in everyday life. The giant swing with a 20m drop challenged students mentally and emotionally. Some of the quietest students, it turns out, have some of the strongest mental fortitude dropping from the very top. The rock climbing challenged students physically and mentally, due to the height and difficulty of the climb. The surfing was very challenging with the strong wind and sweep. All students must be congratulated on their behaviour and attitude of giving everything a go. It was a great way to see how students behave and interact outside the school boundary and you should all be very proud of how they conducted themselves. We are going to have a transition for the Year 2 students entering the senior room in 2017. Each Wednesday and Thursday from week 8 after swimming has concluded, the Year 2 students will be in the senior room. We hope that this will allow the students to experience the senior room, developing their confidence for next year. Congratulations to Ashdon Randall. Last week Ashdon competed at the NSW Primary Schools State Athletics Carnival in shot put and discus. Ashdon finished 4th in discus and 10th in shot put. Well done. Attendance at school, particularly in early years, establishes the attendance pattern for students throughout the schooling life. If attendance is high (over 95%) during primary school, students are more likely to achieve better results and enjoy school more than those with poor attendance rates. Five Ways to Eat More Healthily. Try these 5 ways to eat more healthily

every day. It is easier than you may

think.

• Swap your snack. Many people

reach for a snack or two in between

meals. Snacking is fine, just be sure to

choose healthy options. The key is to

have some healthy snacks ready when

hunger hits.

• Cut one unhealthy treat. Try to nix

one unhealthy food item each day.

Whether it is a donut in the morning,

bag of chips at lunch, or chocolate

cake after dinner.

• DO NOT drink sweetened drinks.

• Skip seconds. Taking a second

helping can add up to unwanted calo-

ries. If you still do not feel satisfied after a

meal, add a second helping of vegeta-

bles, fruit, or salad.

• Just say "no" to fried food. Frying

food adds lots of unhealthy calories and

saturated fat to any dish. Instead of

fried chicken or fish, choose grilled, or

poached instead. And skip the French

fries. Instead, see if you can substitute

for the vegetable of the day or a side

salad.

The P and C have another busy term ahead. There are various fundraisers coming up and assistance at these events would be greatly appreciated. The two fundraisers in focus at the moment are the Canteen at the Maclean Civic Hall and the Home Hardware BBQ. Help is needed for both these events. The Canteen will be open on the Thursday night with a sausage sizzle. Cakes and light refreshments will be available at the Friday matinee performance during the intermission break (no BBQ). As we are sharing this fundraising event with Law-rence Public School, Lawrence will staff the canteen on the Thursday night and Cowper will staff the canteen on Friday. That means we are asking for donations of cakes and slices to sell on the Friday and people to help in the Canteen on the day. If you can help, please contact Michelle Pigg. The Home Hardware BBQ is on the Saturday 29th of October. The P and C are looking for people to staff the BBQ and also donations of cakes and slices to be sold on the day. The P and C are hoping to have the funds this Term to commence installation of the Air Conditioner in the library and to fit insect screens to the toilets and the canteen. Also, a kind reminder to keep selling tickets for the end of year raffle! If you require more tickets, please contact Melissa Wearing. Thanks to all those P and C volunteers who help at fundraising events, your time and effort is much appreciated.
