Introduction

The strimmer is a great tool to keep your garden in check and under control. It allows you to easily keep growth under control and stop raggedy weeds from populating your garden.

However there are certain considerations that you should make before operating a strimmer. Some of these considerations are for safety and others are for ease of use.

This slideshow will provide some useful tips which will help you get the most out of your garden strimmer.

Safety ConsiderationsWhen operating a strimmer you should always be wearing the correct protective gear. The reason for this is that the strimmer wire and the flying debris it produces can cause injury and harm.

Protective clothing and accessories

- Eye-wear- Protective trousers- Thick all weather boots

Operational safety measures

- Use a harness to protect against back strain and injury if using for long periods- Rest at regular intervals to give your body a break- Leave at least fifteen feet between the strimmer and other people.

Operational Tips

• You should make sure you are mixing your fuel/oil in the correct proportions. The best way to keep this consistent is to make a large batch and split it down into smaller pre-prepared bottles.

• If you’re trimming near the base of a tree be sure not to scar/split the bark. This can lead to disease or an infection getting into the tree’s system which can cause it to slowly rot.

• Walk at a steady pace with the strimmer and do not rush the job. The device only has so much power and so many rotations per minute. So you need to operate in sync with the device’s natural rhythm. If you go too fast you will miss patches and end up with patchy results.
