Moving Forward in Faith Capital Campaign Volume XIII Sunday December 13, 2020
OVER $1.1 MILLION PLEDGE TO DATE !
We are very pleased to announce that our Moving Forward in Faith Capital Campaign has reached another
important milestone. On Wednesday, December 9, the campaign office reported that pledges have reached
$1,111,760. This has been generated through the sacrificial generosity of approximately 150 parish households
as well as support from our concert series and community friends. Father Chris and the campaign committee are
most grateful to our donors for their commitment and sacrifice to St. Bernard and they ask that the remainder of
our parish family join them in this very important project. At this time, we are asking all parishioners to return
their completed pledge form by placing it in the offertory collection box or you may return it to the parish
office during the week.
To all of those parishioners who have already made their commitment before this weekend once again – Thank You. To those parishioners who are praying about their potential commitment – Thank You, your
generous sacrificial commitment will help us as move closer to our goal as we now move into the home stretch
of the parish phase of our campaign.
Why Pledging Is Important
Asking each family to prayerfully consider a sacrificial pledge, over five years if possible, is central to a successful campaign.
We welcome all gifts. Pledging however, accomplishes many things:
A pledge allows one to consider a gift, which they may not have thought possible A pledge makes payment less of a burden than a one-time gift
Please Remember:
If a few give, then some things will get done and others will fall by the side, and the few will tire quickly.
If everybody gives something, then the community is strong and vibrant and the possibilities for the future
are great. And the cost – though real – is not an unbearable burden to just a few.

Knights of Columbus Council 547 Council 547 of the Knights of Columbus is delighted to honor the family of José and Yeni Moreno-Garcia as the family of the month forDecember2020.Thisfamilyfinishedreceivingalltheirinitiationsacraments and celebrated their Catholic marriage this year. They have three children and go out of their way every Sunday to bring their son José to serve as the altar boy at Mass. They exemplify the words of Fr. Patrick Peyton who said, “The family that prays together stays together.” La comunidad hispana de la parroquia de San Bernardo une su enhorabuena a la vez que agradece, a la familia Moreno García, su testimonio de fe en nuestro Señor.
St. Bernard Mailbox Ministry• Drop the UNSEALED CARD in one of the baskets at
each entrance of the church. There will be cards available by the baskets if you don’t have one, but feel free to purchase your own, be creative, or engage your children in handmade cards. If you know of any parishioners who should be added to our outreach list, please contact the Parish Office at (330) 253-5161 or [email protected].
PASTOR’S NOTE
Dear Parishioners of Both St. Bernard and St. Mary Parishes: Inthisweek’sbulletin, pleaseseethefinancial report that the diocese requires me as your pastor to share with you onceperyearinthespiritoffinancialtransparencyandforthe mutual cooperation in our Christian life that we live together in these our parishes. They are below and on the back of this insert.
The Financial Story of both parishes this year is the same as the Financial Story all over the planet these days: COVID! Because of the virus, we did not have anywhere near a normal Easter Collection and especially back in April and May had quite abnormal weekly collections. Thankfully, most of our families have made adjustments to either send in or physically bring their collection. The bills remain constant even as the rest of life is still a little bit off-routine. A reminder that both parishes can be supported digitally through https://www.catholiccommunity.org/ways-to-give/donate/universal-offertory-program. Both parishes did receive Payroll Protection Program money, but until Congress decides how it should be paid back, it is still a “debt owed.” Most of our summer and early fall payroll was afforded thanks to this program. We were and still are glad for the security, certainty and capability it gave us. Thanks again to the Business Managers of both parishes for their hardwork on filing theproperdocumentation to acquirethese loans; it was not easy! The only other factors in the balance sheets are St. Bernard construction and St. Mary School! This year, instead of contributing an undetermined amount from savings, St. Mary Parish made a $15,000 commitment to St. Mary School and paid its insurance. Also, with 235 children times roughly the $4,500 per student granted through EdChoice vouchers, we are in VERY strong financialpositionasachurchandaschool.ComeJanuarywe are excited to begin a new chapter in the history of both entities as we each launch separate but related membership, capital and campus enhancement campaigns! Special thanks to John Grossman, Bill Choler and Helen Traresforallyoudotokeepourschoolfinancesonbudget,on task and on the straight and narrow! Of course the Business Managers also deserve our profound gratitude. Many of St. Bernard’s construction and engineering costs arereflectedinthisyear’sstatementasfurthermoneyowedback to the diocese. We hope that next year’s statement will look much more healthy! We continue as well to have past year’s diocesan assessment fees that haven’t been paid at St.Bernardreflectedonourfinancialstatements.Theyarenot being collected on actively, but that doesn’t mean we can just remove them.As Archbishop Perez once said during a Mass at St. Bernard: “This is not Father Chris’ Parish only; this is YOUR parish. This is YOUR roof, YOUR sound system, and these are YOUR bills!” Like most things he said, it was humorous and made a good point. These expenditures are more YOUR expenditures that myself and the key staff willingly work and pray hard to make the right choices by. If at all you want to discuss them more, have questions answered, etc., please contact myself, the staff or a member of the Finance or Parish Councils of the parishes. Finally, thank you to our bulletin advertisers who underwrite the cost of the bulletins and make our communication if important things like this possible. Please patronize the bulletin sponsors! To become a bulletin sponsor, please contact the folks indicated on the back of each bulletin. God Bless You! God Bless Us!
