Voting may be part of the solutions!

Recruiting teachers to teach internation-al is not the easiest job. I love the factthat I am a part of the job creation processbut the request that I get from school man-agement can put my ethical and moralbeliefs in a critical position.

Additionally to the school manage-ment, I receive a lot of requests fromEducational Management companies fromChina. The private schools in China givecontracts to Educational Management com-panies to hire and pay the teachers.

The Educational Management compa-nies contact me to assist in finding teachers.Below is a request I recently received froma company.

Quote: Our teaching-in-China place-ments are all year round and I do hope youcan send me some good candidates on amonthly basis. I would like to reiterate thefollowing are our basic requirements:-Native English speakers; aged 20-55;Preferably a university degree holder;preferably a TEFL/TESOL certificate hold-er; preferably Caucasians- most schoolspsychopathically stick to this point at thisend.

This is another request I received froma Skype message: Quote: Teachers need toteach age from 3 to 12 years, have somegood way to control young children and

have some other is most our school needwhite native speaker, this is not racial dis-crimination, because some child will crywhen they face a black people, we have tosend them white teachers, in Beijing and insome good school few black teacher.

Add to their special request forCaucasian teachers, the salary that theyoffer is no more than $1300 per month. I amnot sure how many qualified American

teachers that I will get to go to China on thatsalary even with selling the perks of freeaccommodation.

I asked these Educational Managementcompanies if they would consider teachersfrom the Caribbean Islands. I was told theywould try and place Caribbean teachers inlow dosage. So I ask you the readers foryour advice if you were in my shoe.

New York City residents will go to thepolls on November 6, 2013 to elect thenext City Mayor, Comptroller, PublicAdvocate along with District Attorneys,Borough Presidents and several CityCouncil representatives.

This is an opportunity for residents tohave a say in who leads the City over thenext two to four years. But, exercising yourright to vote could determine the level ofsocial and economic gains in the communi-ty as well as the protection of our personalsecurity, equal rights and justice.

With the current population of NewYork City estimated at 8.337 million people, data from the U.S. Census shows that of the1.3 million immigrants in the fiveBoroughs, about 800,000 are lawful resi-dents of voting age.

The largest ethnic group in New YorkCity is the white ethnicity, which makes up

about 44% of the population. About 25.5%of the population identifies as black andabout 12.7% of the population identifies asAsian. Also, Hispanics make up about28.6% of the population. With about 37% ofthe population born in a foreign country, theCity has been a place of many different cul-tures.

New York is also known to record thehighest income inequality among all of theother States with the top 1% of the popula-tion in New York City controlling over 45%of the income earned in the City. The bot-tom 50% of the population only has 9% ofthe income.

As African Americans we are not onlyfew in numbers, but have limited financialresources to wield serious influences on thegovernance of our communities.

Despite the shortcomings and weak-nesses, we must be very active players inour democratic process in order to create the

type of community we want to raise ourfamilies and do businesses.Getting on the voters list and voting on elec-tion day are among the most practical strate-gies for us to consider as we seek self-gov-ernance and economic progress.

Fixing our political and governancestructure could be the solutions towards ourpersonal economic and social growth as inthe case of Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Some eleven years after assuming thepost in New York City, Mayor Bloombergspersonal wealth and fortune have moved upto of $31 billion, a ten-fold increase, whilethe City achieves growth in employmentand life expectancy move up by two plusyears. As African Americans, we should forgealliance with other ethnic groups and politi-cal parties both Democrat and Republican- to achieve political leadership. We shouldstart the process by registering to vote.

Jamaica's High Commissioner to Trinidadand Tobago, Sharon Saunders, recently dis-missed media reports in Kingston that a groupof 20 Jamaicans had been deported from Portof Spain earlier this week.

On Thursday, there were media reportsthat the Jamaicans, who had arrived here onCaribbean Airlines (CAL) flight 457 onWednesday night, had been given a rudeawakening on arrival at the PiarcoInternational Airport.

The report claimed that the Jamaicanswere detained by Immigration and Customsofficials and sent home the following day. Italso said that the Trinidadian authorities had

blamed Jamaicans for an increase in the crimelevels here.

But Saunders, speaking on a radio pro-gramme here, said the reports were inaccurateand "unfortunate". "I have to confirm thatthere is no truth to what was carried, I believeon Nationwide Radio yesterday, that 20Jamaicans were returned who arrived the pre-vious evening. "The fact is there were twofemale Jamaicans who were not allowed entryand were returned safely to Jamaica yesterdaymorning via Caribbean Airlines. So it is afalsehood," she said, noting, however, that asimilar situation did occur last month whenseveral Jamaicans were sent back home, forc-ing an intervention by her office.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana: Guyanas Minister of Agriculture, Dr LeslieRamsammy, has criticised regional govern-ments for falling short on promises of greaterinvestment in agricultural research.

Speaking at the opening of a regionalmedia workshop to kick off Caribbean Weekof Agriculture (CWA) activities here,Ramsammy pointed to the fact that less than0.1 per cent of the regions annual expenditureis devoted to research in the sector.

He cited lagging developments in thepropagation of commercially-viable plantvarieties and the search for alternatives to

heavy reliance of harmful pesticides and fer-tilisers, the minister said research and devel-opment had fallen behind.

Ramsammy said this exists even thoughCaribbean governments say they are in pur-suit of a hunger free region of the world.

He chided regional officials for slowdevelopment of a genetically-modified organ-ism (GMO) policy and said though he wouldnot state his personal view on the issue, sucha policy was important if the region were toproperly address climate change impacts onthe sector.

    CaribPR Wire:

Caribbean-born, New York-based media entrepreneur andcolumnist, Felicia J. Persaud, was among tens of thou-sands in the United States joining the march nationally forComprehensive Immigration Reform, (CIR), on Saturday,October 5.

The Hard Beat Communications executive, along withValence Williams and Menes De Griot of Guyana, were thelone Caribbean nationals joining the New York ImmigrationCoalition organized rally in Brooklyn, NY, as they put thespotlight on the voiceless Caribbeans who are undocumentedand desperate for immigration reform yet remain in the shad-ows.

Carrying a sign that read simply: "Caribbeans Too NeedImmigration Reform," Persaud, founder of CaribPR Wire,News Americas Now and Invest Caribbean Now, has pennedher 46th open letter to President Obama in her weekly col-umn in the New York Amsterdam News calling for immigra-tion reform now, got the thumbs up from Chirlane McCray, the wife of New York City mayoral front-runner, Bill deBlasio, whose roots extend to the Caribbean, as she proudlycarried her sign around Cadman Plaza, Brooklyn.

Then along with De Griot on the drum and Williams onthe cowbells, Persaud marched over the Brooklyn BridgeSaturday afternoon along with thousands of mainly Latinoadvocates to send a message to President Obama and the U.S.Congress that passage of comprehensive reform was an issuejust as important as the debt ceiling and the re-opening of thegovernment.

"The fact the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Serviceand consuls worldwide are largely open because of immi-grants fees and the government shutdown has not affectedthem tells why the Congress needs to pass CIR now,"Persaud said.

Though they were only three, the small Caribbean con-tingent stole the show with their rhythm and sent a clear mes-sage that the Caribbean was in the house and also neededimmigration reform. "It's beyond incomprehensible thatsome three million Caribbean people can party each yeardown Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, New York but only threeof us can show up to make our voices heard for somethingthat is important to thousands in our community," saidPersaud.

Trinidad and Tobago-born footballer,Akeem Adams, has had his left legamputated as he continues to fight for hislife in a hospital in Hungary.

Adams, 22, who plays for theFerencvrosi Torna club, suffered a mas-sive heart attack last month and was fittedwith a mechanical heart while awaiting aheart transplant.

However, his condition was said tohave worsened because of necrosis in thelimb as a resulted of his artificial heart notefficiently getting blood to his extremi-ties.

Adams was fitted with the mechani-cal device just under a week ago to savehis life but sadly his leg had to be ampu-tated due to the mortification of limbmuscles. This surgery prevented theimmediate threat to life, FerencvrosiTorna Club revealed on its website.

The Trinidad and Tobago FootballAssociation, (TTFA) launched a fund lastweek to assist Adams who remains in theIntensive Care Unit (ICU) of VrosmajoriHeart Clinic in Hungary.

    KANSAS CITY:

Jamaica's dream of reaching the finalsof another World Cup came to an endon Friday evening in the alien setting of astadium in Kansas City in the UnitedStates.

The Reggae Boyz, still holding on toa faint hope of qualification when theyleft Kingston earlier in the week, had thathope shattered when they were beatentwo-nil by the Americans.

Jermaine "Tuffy" Anderso, the strik-er on whom many local fans were pinningtheir hopes of a positive outcome, wasonly given the last six minutes of thegame.

After a goalless first half and anoth-er 22 minutes in which the Jamaicansheld their own, the Americans got theirfirst goal through Graham Zusi in the 77minute of play. Jozy Altidore added thesecond goal to make the outcome a for-

mality, giving the Americans first place inthe qualifying group and headed forBrazil in 2014.

Jamaica remains rooted at the foot ofthe standings on four points, and will endthe campaign in 6th and last place onTuesday, whatever the outcome of thefixtures then.

Honduras closed in on a place in theWorld Cup finals after a one-nil win overCosta Rica, who have already securedtheir place in the world showpiece. JerryBengtson got the winner for Honduras inthe 65th minute.

That win has pushed Honduras to 14points, that's six more than fourth placedMexico and Panama who are also playinglate Friday evening.

WADA is probing anti-doping claimsthat drug testing of Jamaica'ssprinters broke down before the SummerOlympic Games in London in 2012.

WADA will undertake an extraordi-nary audit of the Jamaica Anti-DopingCommission after its former head claimedout-of-competition testing all but van-ished between January and July 2012.

WADA has confirmed to the AP thatthere was a significant gap of no testingin the run-up to the Olympics and that it issubsequently concerned enough to inves-tigate the issue.

"There was a period of - and forgiveme if I don't have the number of monthsright - but maybe five to six months dur-ing the beginning part of 2012 where therewas no effective operation," WADADirector General David Howman said inan interview. "No testing. There mighthave been one or two, but there was notesting. So we were worried about it, obvi-ously."

However, Dr. Herbert Elliott,Chairman of the Jamaica Anti-DopingCommission (JADCO), has dismissedRenee Anne Shirleys figures as beinguntrue.

The city's Board of Elections has issuedthis year's official general electioncontest listalthough in a few cases, there's no contest at all.

In six of the city's 51 districts,Democratic Council candidates are run-ning unopposed.

Manhattan's Margaret Chin(Chinatown and Lower Manhattan) andInez Dickens (Central Harlem) join threeQueens Council membersJulissaFerreras (East Elmhurst, Corona), DannyDromm (East Elmhurst, Jackson Heights)and Jamie Van Bramer (Long Island City,Sunnyside)as incumbents facing noteven a minor-party challenger. None of thethree Queens reps even faced a primarychallenge, so they'll cruise to re-electiontotally unopposed.

In Brooklyn's 35th district, cover-ing Fort Greene and Clinton Hill,Democrat Laurie Cumbo, who led a largeprimary field, faces no general electionopposition.

She's the only non-incumbent facingno challenge on November 5.

In sixteen other districts throughBrooklyn, Manhattan and Queens,Democrats face only third-party chal-lengers because there is no Republican in

the race. And Maritza Davila faces noGOP opposition in her bid to replace VitoLopez in Bushwick's state Assembly seat.

In Staten Island and the Bronx, allCouncil races feature Republican andDemocratic contestants.

There are Democrats and Republicansin all the borough presidency races exceptBrooklyn's, where State Sen. Eric Adams,a Democrat running to replace MartyMarkowitz, faces only third-party opposi-tion.

This year's menu offers slightly lesschoice than in 2009, when five Councilcandidates ran totally unopposed in thegeneral election and 11 faced no major-party opponent. One of the unopposed wasFerreras, meaning she hasn't faced a mean-ingful election since the primary in '09.

    Of course, facing a third-party oppo-nent, or even a Republican, doesn't neces-sarily mean a Democrat faces a real chal-lenge.

In 2009, all five borough presidencyraces faced major-party opponents, andnone of the winners received less than 75percent of the vote.

The low turnout New York City hasseen in recent municipal elections (in2009, fewer than one in eight Democratsvoted in the primary and less than a quar-ter of registered voters came out for theNovember election) has many causes, butthe lack of even token competition is like-ly a contributing factor.

If so the fact that this year's publicadvocate and comptroller races are beingtreated as coronations for DemocratsLetitia James and Scott Stringer, that pollssuggest a landslide in the mayor's race andthat nearly half of the City Council racesare low-drama affairs suggest this year'sturnout won't reverse the trend.

You should know that Mayor MichaelBloomberg's days are numbered asMayor of the City of New York. He has onlya little less than three months before he's outof public office.

You should also know that along withMayor Bloombergs departure will alsocome the departure of New York City'sCommissioners, special assistants, andmany workers who were hired and appoint-ed to serve at the pleasure of the Mayor. Inother words, thousands of people who nowdrive special vehicles and travel with driversand bodyguards - beginning on January 1,2014 - will be seen walking down the streetand riding the subway like anybody else.

One of those many positions that willbecome vacant is the Commissioner of NewYork City Police Department. RaymondKelly, the current Police Commissioner whohas served for the past twelve (12) years inMayor Bloomberg's Administration, is oneof those many people who will have to packhis bags and move on.

One of the first orders of business forthe newly elected Mayor will be to select allof his new Commissioners - including themost important Commissioner of all: theCommissioner of New York City PoliceDepartment. This department has never hada Hispanic Commissioner. PoliceCommissioners have been AfricanAmerican, Jewish, Irish, Italian, etc. - butnever Hispanic.

You should know that the highest posi-tion ever reached by any Hispanic in theNew York City Police Department is held byRafael Pineiro, the son of a Spaniard fatherand a Cuban mother. Rafael Pineiro holdsthe position of the 1st Vice-Commissionerof New York City Police Department. Inother words, he is the one who directs theday-to-day operations within the depart-ment.

We have all heard that New York City'sDemocratic Mayoral Candidate, Bill DeBlasio, has already begun to prepare a list ofnames, so if he is elected, he will be pre-pared to choose from that list and nominatethe next Police Commissioner.

You should know that this topic hasbeen covered several times in print, on theradio and television, and online and weknow that Bill De Blasio does have a list ofpotential nominees. We also know that BillDe Blasio's list for potential PoliceCommissioner does not even mentionnames that are Hispanic.

We all heard Bill De Blasio say: Oneperson whos been a very key adviser to meis Bill Bratton. I will certainly considerhim. Bill Bratton was PoliceCommissioner under Rudy Giuliani'sAdministration.

Another name mentioned to serve asNew York City's Police Commissioner isPhilip Banks, who is an African-Americanand serves as the Chief of Department inBloombergs New York City PoliceDepartment. Bill De Blasio described Chiefof Department Philip Banks as: someoneId consider.

To this date, there has been no one ofHispanic descent that Bill De Blasio hasmentioned to serve as New York City'sPolice Commissioner.

I wonder what is the reason that amongall of the people who Bill De Blasio may beconsidering for Police Commissioner, thatthere is not even one Hispanic on that list?Could it be that among so many thousandsof Hispanics in New York City, no one isqualified to serve as Police Commissioner?

You should know that I did not supportBill De Blasio in the Democratic Primary, soI really have no right to demand much fromhim. In fact, the majority of New York'sHispanic elected officials did not endorseBill De Blasio either. Even New York'slargest Spanish language newspaper, ElDiario La Prensa - whose logo is TheChampion of the Hispanics - did not giveits endorsement to Bill De Blasio.

I refuse to believe this is the reason thatno Hispanic is being considered for the roleof Commissioner of the New York CityPolice Department.

My dear reader, although there was notmuch support for Bill DeBlasio by Hispanicelected officials, it is well known that theHispanic community and the Hispanic votecame out and overwhelmingly supportedBill De Blasio on election day. As such, ourcommunity deserves a lot more considera-tion - and respect!

You should know Bill DeBlasio's pub-lic relations specialist, Roberto Perez, ana-lyzed the voter breakdown and wrote a col-umn to show all of us that the Hispanic com-munity got out the vote for Bill De Blasioeven though Hispanic leaders did not sup-port Bill De Blasio.

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like torecommend to Roberto Perez that he be sureto show his column to Bill DeBlasio so hisboss understands and appreciates that hewon the Hispanic vote - even without thesupport of their leaders.

Primrose Cricket Club@100... MESSAGESA remarkable achievementand meaningful jubilation

My heartiest congratula-tions to the President, other members of theExecutive, members andfriends of the PrimroseCricket Club on this tourorganizations One Hund-redth Anniversary.

As cricketers, we are allaccustomed to the ensuingelaborate celebrations andjubilations when one scoresa century. The PrimroseCricket Club, the first of itskind in these United Statesof America, has just done so.Therefore, it is quite in orderto celebrate with an anniver-sary ball.

Your five foundingfathers in 1913 were truevisionaries, who establisheda solid foundation, (laid thewicket-if you will) that hasgrown and has evolved intoone of the oldest cricketclubs at this level in theUnited States of America.

The Primrose CricketClub has shown its mettle, withstanding the manyobstacles and test of time. The Executive body hasalways managed to findcompetent hands into whichto place the running of theclub, generation after gener-ation.

Through this process, itwas possible for the buildingof an organization worthy ofmemory of those men andwomen from Jamaica andother countries. These per-sons pioneered and toiledvoluntarily for the love ofthe game, and for those whowould benefit from thegames existence in whatwas then a strange land.

Well done PrimroseCricket Club! I know youwill score many more cen-turies along the way. Themost important of these willbe among the young menand women, who will step tothe crease and make theircontributions towards thenext century.

It is an established fact thatsporting organizationshave been the cohesive ele-ments that have made WestIndians in foreign landsmore comfortable with eachother.

Cricket is the mostwell-known sport played inthe Caribbean. Although itis not played extensively inthe United States ofAmerica, there have beensignificant attempts toincrease its attractivenessamong residents.

The Primrose CricketClub Inc. is definitely themost significant group inthis regard.

Founded one hundredyears ago by a group of fiveJamaicans living in NewYork, its objectives haveexpanded beyond theboundaries of merely play-ing cricket to other commu-nity activities such as schol-arship assistance and sup-port for children and the eld-erly.

The Club has truly beenan inspiration to Caribbeanpeople living in New York.

I wish to express hearti-est congratulations to all themembers and supporters ofthe Primrose Cricket Clubas we celebrate one hundredyears of the founding of theclub.

Parents, students and educators who favorcharter schools marched over theBrooklyn Bridge Tuesday morning toprotest two proposals from mayoral candi-date Bill de Blasio that would include pay-ing rent and moratoriums on co-locations.

It was designed to be a show of force, the type of force that's colorful, cheerful andkid-friendly.

Organizers say 17,000 charter schoolsupporters showed up Tuesday morning. Why? "To march the Brooklyn Bridge 'causewe need new schools," said one young stu-dent at the protest.

"Parents have to make that choice," saidanother. The first marchers began crossingbefore 9 a.m. More than three hours later, they were still coming.

While students placed self-portraits infront of the Department of Education, theirmessage was aimed at the next administra-tion.

"Parents who feel like they've benefitedfrom Mayor Bloomberg's policies wouldlike to see them continued," said SharhondaBossier of Families for Excellent Schools.Their specific concern is with mayoral front-runner Bill de Blasio, who has said he'll be

less friendly toward the publicly funded, pri-vately managed charter schools. "The nextmayor has a choice," said one parent at themarch.

De Blasio has said that he'll start requir-ing charter schools to pay rent if they wantto use space in public school buildings, which charter supporters say could put someof them out of business.

"We deserve the right for free space in apublic school building," said one parent atthe march. Asked about it after the march, deBlasio didn't back down.

Another summer has come to an end. Itwas fun while it lasted, but now it'stime to set our sights on a whole new sea-son.

Since we know you want to head intofall looking fabulous, we've put togethersome of our best tips for getting gorgeousas we say goodbye to summer.

Here are a few skin care tips for fall tokeep you looking beautiful through the fallseason.

Reassess Your Body Cleanser: In the summer, fruity shower gels are apopular treat, but just be sure that yourcurrent favorite isn't going to dry out yourskin when the dry cold weather comes in.You'll want to find a shower gel that issoap-free as well as hydrating. In the falland winter, I like to put away the gels andbring out a creamy body wash. Milk Bathand Shower Cream is a great mild scentfor fall, but be on the lookout for fantasticnutty or fall scents like pumpkin or oat-meal cookie.

Oil-Based Scrubs:These are perfect for fall and winterbecause you are getting the exfoliatingbenefits with the extra bonus of hydratingoils. And when it comes to oily scrubs, thechoices are endless! You can find scrubsthat have a lot of oil swimming on top allthe way to scrubs that are more of a solidconsistency.

Moisturize Every Single Day:If you want to keep dry skin at bay, youmust hydrate your skin on a daily basis. The best time to apply your lotion is right

after you've dried off after your shower orbath. Seal in the moisture that's alreadybeen absorbed into your skin.

Soften your skin with oil:Heavy creams arent the only way tohydrate when the weather and your skinget dry. Facial oils are just as moisturizing, and sink in quicker meaning you donthave to wait long to apply makeup.

Make over your makeup:If youre not already hooked on mineralmakeup, now is the time to get in on thishealthy trend. The latest mineral findsboast good-for-your-skin ingredients likesoybean extract and seaweed, in additionto being free of preservatives, synthetics, and artificial oils.

Give skin the spa touch:The latest way to get amazing skin is topower up your face-washing routine with arotating cleansing brush, the at-homefacial appliance dermatologists arebuzzing about.

AYouTube video presented bylawyers for the youngest son ofreggae great Peter Tosh failed to con-vince a judge in Hackensack to lowertheir clients bail in connection with65 pounds of pot that Mahwahpolice said they found in the trunk ofhis car on Fathers Day weekend.

The defense argued to SuperiorCourt Judge Judge John A. Contethat a family bond would holdJawara G. McIntosh just as securelyas the $200,000 bail that has kepthim in the Bergen County Jail thepast four months.

The video includes a brief inter-view with one of McIntoshs youngdaughters, Selecta Jah Tosh, sayinghow involved he is in her and her sis-ters lives. Also interviewed is hissister, Niame McIntosh, a Bostonpublic school teacher who said herbrothers time spent behind bars sofar is really too long knowing thathes really not a bad person.Hes not a menace to society.

Niame McIntosh refers in thevideo to their world-renowned father, who was killed during a 1987 homeinvasion in his native Jamaica, as amusical ambassador for equalrights.

    Grammy winner Peter Tosh

(Winston Hubert McIntosh) was amember of Bob Marleys Wailers, arguably the most accomplished reg-gae band in musical history.Although an international recordingstar, Tosh didnt achieve fame in theU.S. until his 1978 duet with MickJagger on the Temptations songDont Look Back.

He fought publicly againstapartheid and for the legalization ofmarijuana for much of his career.

McIntosh, 33, who shares hisfathers Legalize It advocacy andgoes by the performing name Tosh1, is seen in the video presented toConte referring to himself, theyoungest of his fathers sons, as thelast hope for his legacy. Im goingto make sure I live up to that, headds.

Blind dating can be convenient for thosewith a busy lifestyle. Many people donot even know where to begin looking for adate. Instead of spending hours speed dating,it can be a lot easier to have a blind date setup for you.

Broaden your horizons. One of thebest things about blind dating is that you willbe meeting people who are not already inyour life. This can be a great way to see whatelse is out there.

There are many people who could setyou up on a blind date. Friends, co-workers,and family members are just a few of the dif-ferent people in your life who may knowsomeone who is also looking. The possibili-ties of people that you may be able to meetare endless.

So here are a few tips for your nextblind date.

Plan your activities: Some ideaswould be softball, tennis, bowling, miniaturegolf, maybe even a board or card game(though, it could be hard with only two ofyou). Beware of trying something new, thatyou may not be knowledgeable at.

Plan your outing: Plan short, briefmeetings at public places. A restaurant orcoffee shop is a good idea. Maybe even apark. Being in a public place, if things don't

go well, you're not stuck.Choose your attire: Wear whatever fits

the activities. For sporting or fun activities, dress casual. For formal outings like a dinnerat a nice restaurant, dress formal.

Be prepared: Research current events -national, international, and pop culture. Thisway, you'll have something to talk about. Fora good date, you want an instant connection, similar interests, fun and witty conversation, and to just enjoy each other. Physical attrac-tion is a plus. Lying makes a bad date, and ifthere is no connection, well, you might notmake it.

End a bad blind date: Smile and endthe date. Inform the date there is no connec-tion, thank him/her for meeting, and leave. Agood idea would be to arrive in separatevehicles. Since this is the first date, and youhaven't met yet, it is best for each person totake their own car.

He accuses me of being selfishDear Divine Diva:

My husband, "Vernon," and I haveagreed to let you settle an argu-ment. We have been married for sevenyears. Vernon was married to "Tamika,"his previous wife for 12 years.

Since their divorce, Tamika hasbeen invited to and attends all of hisfamily's functions and holiday gather-ings and we are not invited.

Vernon has told his parents thatTamika's presence makes him uncom-fortable, but they said she will "alwaysbe their daughter and they can invitewhomever they choose.

I don't think Vernon should attendthese gatherings with his ex-wife, but heaccuses me of being selfish because if hedoesn't go, he will miss out on his fami-

ly's events. He says if I don't want himthere with her, then I should "crash" theevents and show up uninvited andunwelcomed. What is right? -PJ, NY

Dear PJ: It would interesting to knowmore about how your husband's firstmarriage ended, because that may bewhat has influenced your in-laws' deci-sion not to accept you into the family.

However, as it stands, you arealready experiencing enough problemswithout crashing his parents' gatherings, and I strongly advise against it. Yourhusband is selfish to ignore your feel-ings and go without you, but hey -- that'sthe man you married!

    Dear Divine Diva:

Iam acquainted with a young man who is18. His mother is pushing him to marrya young woman from Jamaica so she canstay in the United States. The young ladyis an employee at his mother's store.

The mother is a very strong force andl am afraid he will go along with herplans. l am sure this kind of thing doeshappen all the time, but if this situation isdiscovered, what could happen to theyoung man? Could he go to jail for this? Iwould hate for him to ruin his life becauseof his pushy mother.

I would like to present him with allthe facts before he commits himself tosomething this life-altering. If you printmy letter please do not reveal my name forprotection, as his mother would neverallow him to see me again.

    -Anonymous

Dear Anonymous: His mother should be ashamed of herself.According to Judge Judith Champagne ofthe California Superior Court, the namefor what you have described is "immigra-tion fraud and it is a felony that could, indeed, bring time. Please warn him thatthe feds are onto these kinds of shenani-gans.

Couples who pretend to be married arecalled in for an interview and questionedseparately about minute details that can-not be faked. Being convicted of a felonycould ruin this young mans future, so Istrongly advise against taking such afoolish risk.

    My journey withprostate cancer

    By Sharon Grey-Bryan

Today Wesley (20th June, 2012) and Iwent to the cancer clinic, and as hedropped me off at the front entrance of thehospital, I glanced at the over sized sign thatreads, CANCER CLINIC, my God, this isfor real I thought. My stomach was doingall kind of acrobatic stuff; my feet suddenlybecame too heavy for my vertically chal-lenged frame.

As much as I had prepared myself men-tally, my head, unfortunately forgot to con-vey the message to my heart that Wesley hasprostate cancer. As we held hands walkingthrough the main entrance door, I felt asthough I were a prisoner being taken to theelectric chair, especially for a crime I did notcommit.

If today was an indication of what isahead of me, I will tell you that the journeywill be long suffering and quite tedious, tosay the least. My journey has not yet begunand already I am beginning to feel the pangsof hell. A life that we had known for overthirty six years is all over and that was not bychoice. Where did yesterday go? I keptasking myself, and what could have possiblygone wrong why today is up on us?Yesterday we had a marriage that was solidas a rock. We were blissfully happy; mymarriage was my haven, a peaceful place tofall. A place I felt the safest and secured. Itwas not at all perfect, but then again neitherwere we, but at the end of the day, there wasno one we would have rather come home to,but each other. We had a marriage that wasfilled with humor and I am proud to say thatit was my meager contribution to the rela-tionship, and then came today and with somuch heartache and pain.

Little did I know that the cancer would

have been the other woman in our livesand a thorn in my side A woman no manin his right mind would have wanted. I havebeen truly blessed with a faithful man, a manwho happens to love me totally and com-pletely. Some would even say that I havebeen spoiled throughout the years. That wasuntil she came into our lives. Mark you,Wesley did not go out looking for trouble, never the-less, trouble had certainly foundhim. My husband has no desire to be withthis woman as she continues to stalk him.Unfortunately, a restraining order againsther is out of the question as she is abovethe law. Our next step will be to take drasticmeasure, either by burning her to thestake, RADIATION or murdering her, SUR-GERY.

I never knew that there would be a timein my life that I would have preferred THEOTHER WOMAN to be a person so that wecould actually go at it like two ally cats. Iknow one day she will eventually be goneout of our lives, but should I be happy know-ing that she will be leaving with an intri-cate part of his body? Is it selfish of me towant every fiber of his being? Or should I begrateful that when she leaves, she is not tak-ing his heart with her?
