Streamlights ProTac-1AAA Loads of features in a tiny package
By: Sal Palma
Streamlight is unquestionably one of the more
innovative manufacturers of high performance
lighting products on the market. I cant recall a
year when the company has had less than 5
new product announcements and/or
enhancements to established fare, like their TLR
and ProTac line; 2015 is no different. So, I
thought it might be enjoyable to write a review
of Streamlights ProTac-1AAA.
There are some many perfects with this light
that are worth mentioning, but what comes to
mind immediately is how perfect it is as a
backup utility handheld flashlight. On more
than one occasion, Ive found myself in need of
basic reading illumination but only having a 500
lumen flamethrower. The ProTac-1AAA is the
perfect answer for that precise situation.
Ladies, its also perfect as a purse companion,
or pocket-sized flashlight to enhance your
security.
Streamlight included full-sized handheld
functionality in this micro flashlight.
The ProTac-1AAA is powered by a single AAA
battery, alkaline or lithium1 and features a C4
LED that delivers 70 lumens on HIGH and 5
lumens on LOW.
1 High: 70 lumens; 550 candela peak beam intensity;
runs 30 minutes (alkaline); runs 2.25 hours (lithium). Low: 5 lumens; 40 candela peak beam intensity; runs 11 hours (alkaline); runs 22 hours (lithium).

Like its larger family members, the ProTac-1AAA
includes Ten-Tap Programming that allows
selecting from three available programs.
1. HIGH, STROBE and LOW (factory
default)
2. HIGH
3. LOW and HIGH
Selecting the desired program is a simple
matter. Ten taps in rapid succession on the tail
switch and holding on the tenth tap moves you
through the available programs.
Lets assume you like the factory default or
program #1 - this setting provides three modes
HIGH, STROBE and LOW. To move between
settings, tap the tail switch the respective
number of times; for example, to move from
HIGH to STROBE tap the switch twice and to
move from HIGH to LOW, tap the switch three
times. I like to call it intuitive but it took me a
couple of tries to get the cadence.
Other notable features include the anodized
aluminum body and impact resistant tempered
glass lens. Surrounding the glass lens is a bezel
that terminates in a cranial configuration. These
prongs protrude past the glass lens and serve
two functions. First, they protect the glass lens,
but secondly function as a strike surface that
can be used as a less lethal deterrent.
The ProTac-1AAA is waterproof to IPX7
standards of 1 meter full submersion for 30
minutes and drop resistant to 2 meters.
Streamlight also included an unbreakable
pocket clip and a nylon holster.
Now here is its real beauty, you get all this in a
handheld flashlight weighing 1.3 oz. with an
overall length of 3.94 inches. Simply perfect for
every day carry!
The ProTac-1AAA is perfect for individuals,
outdoorsmen, police, military, spouses and kids
anyone needing an unobtrusive but reliable
source of illumination. This little light delivers
professional grade performance in a light-
weight, compact and easy to use package at a
perfect street price of just under $30.
Pick one up and youll never walk in darkness
again. Take my word for it, youll think its
perfect also.
