Annually Thanh Hoa generates about 2.4 million tons of rice cropresidues, in which almost rice straw being burnt open resulting inair pollution, hardened soil and wasted energy sources

2. Opportunities-Provincial dairy farming development program approval (PDFD)-Rapid development and investment of big livestock farms:THTrueMilk, VinaMilk, Thong Nhat-Thanh Hoa Milk under PDFD-Rapid development of centralized small cow farms in districts-There will be big demand of use rice straw as animal feed next time

2. Opportunities-Rapid development of centralized fields poses to application offield mechanization such as harvesting & cultivating machines-Demand of bio-fertiliser/compost for producing seedling trayswhich then used with cultivating machines

3. Market based straw bale business model3.1. Objectives-Reducing smoke/emissions from open burning of rice straw-Earning more income for local farmers from sale of rice straw-Accelerating development of biomass energy & bio-fertiliser inprovince-Energizing cattle breeding development in province

Methods-Rice straw/bio-fertiliser/ pellets demand assessment in province-Feasible assessment of technological alternatives-Selection of appropriate technologies & technical partners-Selection of local implementing partners (it shall be agriculturalservices co-operatives and bio energy enterprises)

Implementation-Working closely with local selected partner to develop straw balebusiness plan & explore market-Agree to cooperative & supportive mechanism-Piloting straw baler & sizer to produce bio-fertiliser/seedling trays-Piloting straw baler & pellet mill to produce biomass pellets

Implementing plan-Market survey in July-Selection of implementing partners in July and Aug-Development of straw bale business plan in Aug, Step, Oct-Procurement of straw balers & pellet mill in Step & Oct-Demonstration of straw balers in Oct, Nov (next harvest)
