Advertise in the Strathmoor Village Voice

Looking for a cost effective way to spread the word about your product/service? Maybe advertising in the Strathmoor Village Voice is something to consider. I am once again looking to include some advertising within our future editions and you will find our updated advertising rates on the last page of this newsletter. The costs have been lowered and you can commit on a per edition basis. I typically publish 4 times per year. If you would like to get a quote for an annual (4 edition) price; I can work on that for you too. It will be about a 10% cost savings if you want to commit to one year. At the present time, 270 newsletters go out via US Mail (Black and White) and I publish on our website (Color) at www.cityofstrathmoorvillage.com. I also notify the NextDoor app when a new edition is online just so our neighboring cities can see what we are up to. If you would like to discuss this; Just drop an email to shermklein@gmail. I hope to start adding some advertising just in time for the Holiday (December 2019) edition.

Welcome to the Neighborhood

During our last Commissioners’ Meeting; We decided that we need to do a better job of welcoming new families into our Village; Making sure they know about our Website, Collecting e-mail ad-dresses, When does trash/recycling get collected, etc. Commissioner Tim Schroering has volun-teered to take this new project on and I am sure that he would like some volunteers to assist. I envision a few of us greeting the new homeowners once we are made aware of a property transfer and providing them with a copy of our Ordinance Book and maybe a one-pager on the really im-portant things. Thinking a Refrigerator magnet or something like that…

RE—Ordinance Book...We are working on updating our old one with the final product being a much more thorough listing of our City Ordinances. Stay tuned for that.

Were You at the Strathmoor/Kingsley Picnic?

Well...If you didn’t make it over to Kingsley Park on Sunday, September 8th, then you missed meeting this guy (maybe girl); I didn’t really check that out! You also missed the other critters in the petting zoo, the Louisville Metro Police Helicopter, our friends at First Financial Bank and a really good dinner courtesy of Morris Deli. We even had some live music playing for a good part of the afternoon.

A good time was had by all and a lot of door prizes were awarded and we even raffled off a couple of bicycles courtesy of First Financial Bank. I didn’t get a final head count, but thanks to the great weather on that day, it was tough finding a table to enjoy your dinner. That’s a good prob-lem to have!

We had an easement tree give-a-way as always. If you couldn’t make it, but would like to inquire about an easement tree; Get in touch with Commissioner Barrow and see if we have some left.

If you missed out this year; No worries, we’ll do it again next year. Maybe we will even go bigger for next year...

History of the Strathmoor Village Flagpole

On July 4th of this year; The Strathmoor Village commissioners rededicated our Strathmoor Vil-lage flagpole (Strathmoor Blvd. Circle) to former Strathmoor Village Police Officer Rudy Davis. In addition to a new flagpole base and commemorative plaque; You will find a US Navy Seal flag fly-ing in Rudy’s honor. There is more to the history of our flagpole however.

The flagpole dates back to the Summer of 1986 and was erected in honor of former Strathmoor Village Commissioner, Herman Kiesler. Mr. Kiesler served as commissioner for Strathmoor Village for 44 years and was regarded as the city’s historian. When Mr. Kiesler passed away in April 1986, the commission agreed to honor Mr. Kiesler in this way as he was known to say that he al-ways wanted to see a flag flying above Strathmoor Boulevard. When the flagpole was erected; it initially flew the United States and Kentucky Commonwealth flags. There was also a plaque hon-oring Mr. Kiesler years of service to the City of Strathmoor Village. I’m not sure where that plaque ended up; I don’t recall seeing one there since I moved into the city in 2001.

Mr. Kiesler built his house on Strathmoor Boulevard in 1937 and was a huge advocate for our large canopy trees throughout the city. During his 44 years as commissioner, Mr. Kiesler also worked to improve drainage within Strathmoor Village. Give a quick thought to both Officer Rudy Davis and Commissioner Herman Kiesler the next time you glance up and see our flags flying high over Strathmoor Boulevard.

The stone entrance columns as you enter the City of Strathmoor Village are getting a facelift. This was prompted by an incident where and LG&E truck damaged the one at the corner of Tyler Lane and Bardstown Road. During the process of getting a quote for its repair; The commission also got a quote to include the re-pair of all the stone columns that needed a little TLC throughout the city. Expect to see the work on these taking place this fall. An informal poll taken during one of our council meetings indi-cated that these entrance markers are very pop-ular with our residents.

Entrance Columns Set for Facelift
