Stratford Waterfront is situated in the heart of the Park. At over 20,000m2 it can accommodate up to 20,000 people at a time and has fantastic views of both The Stadium and the London Aquatics Centre. In the coming years, Stratford Waterfront will be transformed into a world class education and cultural district. It will bring together outstanding organisations to showcase exceptional art, dance, history, craft, science, technology and cutting edge design. A number of world-class institutions, including the University of the Arts London, the Victoria and Albert Museum and Sadler’s Wells will be opening new spaces on the site and discussions are also underway with the Smithsonian Institution, the world’s largest museum and research complex, to join the scheme. In the meantime, we hope to attract new visitors to the Park by creating fun and exciting attractions at the Stratford Waterfront, and we are now accepting new applications for the use of this space in the future.

One way we have transformed Stratford Waterfront in the recent past is to create an attraction called Beach East. Open from June to August 2015, Beach East was designed to encourage families to visit the Park and to enjoy the relaxed, seaside environment. Here are some of the features of the attraction:
• The Beach – Two beaches actually! 1000 tons of fine sand, included two full-size beach volley-ball courts.
• Paddling Pool – at 25m x 8m it was 1/3 full Olympic pool size and changing rooms.
• Pub Tropicana – our double-deck beach bar was open all day everyday with regular live entertainments.
• BeachFeast – Fixed, permanent and changing, temporary food outlets next to the bars provided for a wide range of tastes and diets.
• Funfair – a selection of quality fairground rides suitable for children and families.
• Sports and other activities – Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park’s Sport and Health team manage the Active People Active Park programme. They ran beach sports with local primary school children in our opening weeks and a whole month of sports activities on the beach in August.

Name of attraction Name
This is your chance to imagine what temporary attraction could be hosted in the Stratford Waterfront space. But remember, any attraction in the Park must be ‘sustainable’, which means that it cannot have a negative effect on the natural environment or people around them.
In the space below, create a plan view of your idea for an attraction. Make sure you label the different features of the site.
One way that the Park might decide which idea to approve is to rate applications on a set of important criteria. After discussing each of these criteria in your class, you should be able to rate your designs to see how well they score.
1. Visitor enjoyment / 10
2. Waste / 5
3. Energy / 5
4. Water / 5
5. Lifestyles / 10
6. Biodiversity / 5
7. Transport / 5
