Stratford School Show

This year’s annual show from Stratford

upon Avon School was the Musical

comedy by Michael Finn, The 25th

Annual Putnam Spelling Bee. This

once Broadway Show enables

students from across all the age

groups to get involved in the show

the performers were from Year 7 to

Year 12 as were the school band,

technical team and stage managers.

They even involved the audience

with four brave souls selected from

the audience each night to participate as one of

the Spelling Bee contestants! All those who

participated were tremendous sports and really

helped the performance along and the school is

very grateful to them.

Alin Costea who played William Barfee, the

ultimately winning contestant with a magic

spelling foot, said of the event “It’s hard to put

into words how it felt to be in the play. It was

overwhelmingly awesome to say the least! It was

a great atmosphere and I got to learn some pretty snazzy dances besides the ones that

my character did. I can’t wait for the next one! Alin’s viewpoint was shared by Jasmine

Ashfield in Year 8, who played Olive’s Mum, said “It was amazing and really fun, I loved all

the rehearsals and getting to know your

character. The shows are the best and most

rewarding”

The shows broad reach of drama, music and

dance certainly managed to embrace the

talents of many of the students and the team

building and public performing opportunities it

gave them were marvellous. Some of the most

notable performances were from Lily Mae

Dalleau-White as Olive Ostrovsky and Abby Bunn as Logainne SchwartzandGrubenierre

whose singing voices were marvellous and a definite high spot. The Dramatic acting of

Mai-Li Yap as Marcy Park and the Comedy of Greg Madden as Leaf Coneybear and

Jimmy Middleton Palenciano as Chip Tolentintino all enabled the performances to come

together as the brilliant musical comedy it is.

The cast, band and crew were; Amie Davies, Jay Yap, Madeline Woodroofe, Jimmy
