The new vision for residence life centers around the desire for more upperclassmen on campus. The majority of students who currently live on campus are freshmen and sophomores, and juniors and seniors make up a much smaller portion. The residential life plan aims to increase the number of upperclassmen-friendly living options to better attract more juniors and seniors to on campus living. Another key aspect of the plan is to create a seamless connection between academic and residential life. The university is planning a series of neighborhoods that will consist of groups of residential buildings with several community spaces and themed events. Many neighborhoods will house faculty and staff who will interact with students daily and serve as a liaison between academics and residence life. The addition of several new housing options is already underway, including the construction three new Colonnades residence halls and five new houses being built in the Loy Center, Elon’s Greek housing development. The Harper Center and Story Center will be replaced with a new Internationally-themed housing area next to Lake Mary Nell, set to be completed by December 2012. Elon University’s campus culture to be transformed as result of new residential life plan

A planning committee comprised of Elon University students, faculty and staff has

created a holistic plan to transform residence life, with construction for several aspects already

under way.

The new vision for residence life centers around the desire for more upperclassmen on

campus. The majority of students who currently live on campus are freshmen and sophomores,

and juniors and seniors make up a much smaller portion. The residential life plan aims to

increase the number of upperclassmen-friendly living options to better attract more juniors and

seniors to on campus living.

Another key aspect of the plan is to create a seamless connection between academic and

residential life. The university is planning a series of neighborhoods that will consist of groups of

residential buildings with several community spaces and themed events. Many neighborhoods

will house faculty and staff who will interact with students daily and serve as a liaison between

academics and residence life.

The addition of several new housing options is already underway, including the

construction three new Colonnades residence halls and five new houses being built in the Loy

Center, Elon’s Greek housing development. The Harper Center and Story Center will be replaced

with a new Internationally-themed housing area next to Lake Mary Nell, set to be completed by

December 2012. Additional Danieley Center facilities and a potential senior student housing area

are also in the residence life plan.
