Dynamics of the forest ownership-hectares
• Forest area at 1st of January 1991 was 6.341.260 ha
• In accordance with Law nr.18/1991 490.000 ha of forests were restituted tothe former owners.
• In accordance with Law nr.1/2000, 1.600.000 ha were restituted.
• In accordance with Law nr.247/2005 more than 1.000.000 ha were restituted
• Forest are owned by the State at 1st of January 2017 is 3.145.793 ha (49%from the Romanian Forests)

• 26% coniferous (Norway spruce, silver fir , Scots pine,larch, Douglas-fir);
• 31 % beech;
• 19 % oaks;
• 16 % various hard broadleaves ( hornbeam, black locust, maple, ash, wild cherry etc.);
• 8 % various soft broad-leaves (lime tree, poplars, willows etc.)

Genetic resources management in state-owned horse breeding farms
Romsilva’s Horse Breeding Department, is currentlymanaging 12 stud farms and 4 stallion depots.
Romsilva Stud farms & Stallion Depots consist in:
• 2428 horses (national genetic heritage) - 94 stallions forreproduction, 679 mares, 869 foals, 734 stallions for publicreproduction.
• 13 horse breeds: Lipizzaner, Arabian, EnglishThoroughbred, Furioso North Star, Hucul, RomanianSporthorse, Trotter, Gidran, Nonius, Ardenes, BucovinaHorse
• 650 employees• 7 mil. Euros/year financial support from Romsilva
Romsilva is a member of European State Studs Association– ESSA, the Lipizzan International Federation – LIF, theHucul International Federation – HIF and the InternationalShagya-Araber Gesellschaft – ISG.

The main objective of Romsilva is to develop sustainably, as well as to raise theprofessional competence of its employees and to maximize its own contribution to thequality of life, to preserving the biodiversity of the forest ecosystems and to protect theenvironment, focusing on the management of natural protected areas.
In order to fulfill its mission to sustainably manage the state-own forests in Romania,Romsilva promotes the following:
• Maintaining and encouraging the productive functions of forests
• Maintaining, preserving and increasing the protective functions of forest ecosystems
• Maintaining other social and economic functions of the forests
• Preserving and developing current forest resources
• Maintaining the health and vitality of forest ecosystems
• Maintaining, preserving and increasing the biodiversity of forest ecosystems
