Introduction:

In the year 2010 in the second term; Moi High School was invited by Straight Talk Club Patron of MaryMount Girls High School to participate in the Peace day. Mr. Bengi; a math’s physics teacher; MadamNamiinda; an English teacher and also overall Clubs Patron and Mr. Oscar Awuor; a Computer andPhysical education teacher took a group of 50 students to the Mary Mount Girls.

The 50 students participated in various activities e.g. a 6 km walk; discussions and in entertainment. The day was very successful. It was then that we felt eager to talk to the Mary Mount Straight Talk ClubPatron and we were eager to begin ours at Moi High School Kabarak.I borrowed very many ideas fromthe Patron and promised to work hand in hand with him once we begin ours.

The club mainly focuses on issues affecting the society and high schools. It talks straight about issueswithout beating around the bush. It calls a spade a spade but not a big spoon. The club is very optimisticabout the achievement of the objectives set.

Word from the Patron:

I thank the school administration for allowing me to begin this Club in Moi High School Kabarak. I have amission to achieve in Moi High School Kabarak. It is not just in vain that I have begun this Club. God has ahand in it and I believe that He will help me achieve all the objectives. Thanks also to Madam Namindafor supporting me in the launching of the Club. Thanks to all my colleague teachers for their support andstudents at large.

I do not believe in a dormant club but an active one; a club that brings change to the Society and ourschool. At least one trip per term and organizing for open forums and seminars that sometimes willinvolve the whole School. I will work hand in hand with the media; Nacada People and N.G.Os.

CHANGE:

Chapter1:

I walk down a street and there’s a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in it. It takesforever to get out. It’s my fault.

Chapter2:

I walk down the same street. I fall in the hole again. It still takes a long time toget out. It’s not my fault.

Chapter3:

I walk down the street.I fall in the hole again. It’s becoming a habit. It is my fault. Iget out immediately.

Chapter4:

I walk down the same street and see the deep hole in the sidewalk. I walkaround it.

Chapter 5:

I walk down a different street.

N.B:

Change is like rest. Let us always be ready to change our bad habits for thebetter.

KEEP SWIMMING:

Two frogs fell into a deep cream bowl. One was an optimistic soul. But theother took a gloomy view.”we’ll drown,” he lamented without much ado, andwith a last despairing cry, he flung up his legs and said”Goodbye.”

Quote the other frog with a steadfast grin,” I can’t get out but I won’t give in. I’lljust swim around till my strength is spent, then I’ll die the more content.”

Bravely, he swam to work his scheme, and his struggles began to churn thecream.

The more he swam his legs a flutter, the more the cream turned into butter. Ontop of the butter at last, he stopped, and out of the bowl,he gaily hopped.

What is the moral? It’s easily found…..

If you can’t hop out, keep swimming around.

We should never give up. Let us always be determined and focused till weachieve what we want in our lives. Let us keep swimming.

MY GOAL:

My goal is God Himself,not joy nor peace;

Nor even Blessing,but Himself,my God.

‘Tis His to lead me there, not mine but His……

At any cost, dear Lord, by any road.

So faith bounds forward to its goal in God,

And love can trust her Lord to lead her there.

Page 19: Straight Talk Club Constitution Final Copy

STRAIGHT TALK CLUB : THE NEW BEGINNING 30/032011

Upheld by Him, my soul is foll’wing hard,

Till God hath fulfilled my deepest prayer.

No matter if the way be sometimes dark,

No matter though the cost be oft-times great,

He knoweth how I best shall reach the mark,

The way that leads to Him is seldom straight.

One thing I know,I cannot say Him nay;

One thing I do,I press on towards my Lord.

My God, my Glory here from day to day, and in the glory there, my GreatReward.

11 TIPS FOR MAKING RESOLUTIONS REALITIES:

1.Make a list of your goals:

……..and select the top three to five that are the most important to you. Pray forGod’s guidance in the process. He knows Best.

2. Be Realistic:

Reaching for a goal stretch you but it should also be doable.Decide on areasonable frame for reaching each goal.

3.Don’t try to do everything at once.

Focus on your top goal for a set period of time. Then move to goal no. 2 ,whilemaintaining the progress made towards reaching the firstone and so on.

Page 20: Straight Talk Club Constitution Final Copy

Club Email: [email protected]. Page 20

STRAIGHT TALK CLUB : THE NEW BEGINNING 30/032011

4.Pray:

Prayer brings into play the spiritual help you need to reach your goal.

5.Work with God:

Change involves overcoming the past thought and behavioral patterns. This isnever easy but change for the better is possible if you ask God to help and followHis lead.

‘’With God,nothing will be impossible” (luke1:37)

6.Chart your progress:

Keep track of how far you’ve come using a journal or chart.Keeping records andreviewing them periodically can also help to identify weak spots.

7.Get Help From Others:

Share your plan with a friend and ask for his or her help.Being accountable tosomeone will give you added incentive to stick to your resolutions even when it istough.

8.Don’t be discouraged by your mistakes:

You will have some setbacks and “off” days. Take these lows as a reminder thatyou can’t do it on your own.Draw closer to God and depend more on His help.

Tomorrow is a fresh chance to do better!

9.Be in it for the long Haul:

If you are truly serious about making a change………………, you will be willing to seeit through,no matter how long it takes.

10. Visualize Victory;

Periodically visualize what your life will be like once your goal is reached.

Page 21: Straight Talk Club Constitution Final Copy

Club Email: [email protected]. Page 21

STRAIGHT TALK CLUB : THE NEW BEGINNING 30/032011

Practice the advantages you will gain and how much happier, healthier or moreproductive you will be.

11. Reward yourself for each goal you reach:

The real reward will be the feeling of accomplishment and the benefits you’llexperience from the change you’ve made, but having a physical treat attached toa specific goal can make it more enjoyable.

“ Nobody can go back and start a new beginning but anyone can start todayand make a new ending.”

Also;

“Never say die till death proclaims you are dead”. Keep on fighting till youachieve your goal in life.

AN ENCOURAGING AND INSPIRING STORY:

In december of 1992, I was a happy husband and father of two youngchildren. A month later, I was diagnosed with Acute LymphoplasticLUEkemia.

After two years of chemoterapy that helped me into remission,my body wasweak and lifeless. I felt as if I were a puppet who needed help to lift his arms orhold up his head.

I began to run. After six months,my strength had come back. On one of myruns, one where I felt I could run forever, I decided I was going to try to run amarathon.

After telling my Dad about my plan, he told me of a program that trains peopleto run a marathon, while raising funds for LUEkemia research at the same time.

Page 22: Straight Talk Club Constitution Final Copy

Club Email: [email protected]. Page 22

STRAIGHT TALK CLUB : THE NEW BEGINNING 30/032011

So that summer, through the Luekemia society’s Team in Training program, Istarted to train for the Marine Corps Marathon.During mile after mile ofuncertainty, the day finally came tho run the marathon.

On October 27,1996,at 8a.m, the cannon went off and so did I.Along with19,000 other brave souls I started on a twenty-six and two tenths mile jouerneythat I will never forget.

I first saw my wife Patty at the six mile mark:she seemed happy that I was stilllooking as if I knew what I was doing, and having a good time doing it.At mile17,my mind was going back to those two horrible years that tried to bring myfamily and me down. I saw her againThe concern in her face told me she knew Iwas starting to struggle.I felt as if we were thinking the same, nine more miles andthese last few years will be behind us.

That thought alone pulled me forward. Mile 22,23 slowing but going,24,25then there it was. The Iwo Jima War Memorial.I have seen nothing so grand andinspiring in my life. At 3 hours and 41 minutes after I started, I crossed what Ithink has to be the most fitting finish line in all of road racing!

That night the Luekemia Society gave me a pin at a post race party thatvsimply says,”Luekemia 26.2”

If God wills and I relapse, my cancer may once again take away my hair andmy strength, may be even my life. But it can never take away my pin, or the factthat Iam a marathoner.

N.B:

We should never give up even if we reach a point of no return. Let us always befocused. Students be focused in your academics .Continue working as you prayand you will succeed.

Things Don’t Just Happen:

Things don’t just happen to us

STRAIGHT TALK CLUB : THE NEW BEGINNING 30/032011

Who love God;

They’re planned by His own dear

hand.

Then molded and shaped,and

timed by His clock.

Things don’t just happen;they’re

planned.

We don’t just guess on the issues of

life,

We Christians just rest in our Lord.

We are directed by His sovereign

Will

In the light of His holy word.

We who love Jesus are walking by

faith,

Not seeing one step that’s ahead,

Not doubting one moment what

our lot might be,

But looking to Jesus instead.

Page 24: Straight Talk Club Constitution Final Copy

STRAIGHT TALK CLUB : THE NEW BEGINNING 30/032011

We praise our dear Saviour for

Loving us so,

For planning each care of our life,

Then giving us faith to trust Him

For all,

The blessings as well as the strife.

Things don’t just happen to us who

Love God,

To us who have taken our stand.

No matter the lot,the course,or

The price,

Things don’t just happen;they’re

Planned.
