THANK YOU
The Staff of Stradbroke School wish all families a Merry Christmas and
happy and relaxing summer holidays. Thank you for your support
throughout this year. We look forward to working with you again in 2016.
We extend our best wishes to our year 7 graduates and wish them every
success in secondary school. The 2016 school year begins on Monday 1st
February at 8.50am.
TERM 4 TERRIFIC KIDS
The winners of the Term 4 Kiwanis Terrific Kids Award were announced at
assembly. A Terrific Kid needs to be: Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful,
Responsible, Influential, Friendly, Impeccable and Caring.
These qualities align closely with the characteristics and attitudes of the IB
Learner Profile. The characteristics we expect IB students to display are
those of a person who is an inquirer, knowledgeable, a thinker, a
communicator, open minded, courageous, balanced, principled, reflective
and caring. The attitudes that support these characteristics are
appreciation, commitment, curiosity, empathy, enthusiasm,
independence, integrity, respect and tolerance.
Congratulations to Rory Dowdell and Eden Henderson, our term 4 Terrific
Kids, they are outstanding ambassadors for our school and they approach
all aspects of school life in a balanced, considerate and enthusiastic
manner.

We also welcome back Olivia Crinion from maternity leave.

2016: Michelle Hart, Nadina Lenzi-Bruno, Kirtsie Leslie and
Vonnie Gooding. Congratulations also to Kristen Johnston on
being appointed to a permanent position as Finance Officer.
Congratulations to Lia Francescangeli on her marriage last
weekend. Lia will be Lia Bearzotti when she returns to school
in 2016.
SCHOOL DISMISSAL- LAST DAY OF TERM
Please note that students will be dismissed from a whole
school assembly at 12 noon from Rehn Hall on Friday 11th
December. Children who are not going home will have
modified curriculum activities and will need to book into Kids’
Zone from 2.10pm. The Canteen is closed all day.
KOONGA AVENUE FRONT FENCE
The "Kids Matter @ Stradbroke" front fence signage was
finally put up on the Koonga Avenue fence last weekend.
This signage was an idea raised by the student
representatives on the Kids Voices Matter committee in Term
One. The students on this committee wanted to let the local
community know that we have adopted the Kids Matter
framework here at Stradbroke.
Kids Matter is a fantastic framework that Stradbroke School
started using at the beginning of 2014. The framework guides
and helps teachers and students understand more about
social and emotional learning. We know that understanding
more about social and emotional learning needs of our
students, as well as providing strategies and support with
their wellbeing, hopefully assists in improving student
learning outcomes. www.kidsmatter.edu.au
Each child, teacher, Principal, the chairperson of Governing
Council and each SSO had an opportunity to decorate part of
a letter. All classes worked with their buddy class in the
design and application. Children from our playgroup and
Rostrevor Kindergarten have also been represented.
"Working with my buddy was fun and enjoyable because we got
to share ideas on the types of faces we needed to paint", Emily,
Year 4.
"I hope that when people drive past my school they know that
the Kids Voices Matter committee put in a lot of time and effort
into talking about what we should do on the letters." Sari, Year 4.
This truly was a student led initiative. The students put a lot
of effort into the decision making and they also learnt that
the process for a project this size takes a lot of time and
communication.
We hope that all the past and present Stradbroke families as
well as new families who enrol at our wonderful school enjoy
our sign for many years to come.
Sari Azzam, Emily Worley and Rachel Pontifex
STRADBROKE HIGH ACHIEVERS
Congratulations to Advit Kothari from OU1 for winning the
2015 Resolute Mining Indigenous Art Award for his painting
‘Circle of Life’.
NATURE PLAY
The first stage of the Stradbroke School Nature Play Project is
completed. The children have had a fabulous time exploring
and playing in the new outdoor play area. Encouraging
children to play outdoors has flow on benefits for children’s
health, learning, social and emotional development.
Nature play allows children to develop their natural curiosity
and creativity. In this week’s newsletter there is a great
Nature Play flyer with 25 fun things to do in summer.
WEEK 10 STAFF ON PREMISES
Administration staff will be working week 10 of the term, if
families need to come in and make payments. The staff will
be here Monday 14th
– Thursday 17th
December between
9am – 4pm.

PIANO LESSONS
Extremely limited places are available for piano lessons at
Stradbroke school in 2016. Children learn to read music,
keyboard skills, theory and music history using fun
contemporary method materials in a weekly lesson with a
qualified and experienced teacher and AMEB examiner.
Students engage in regular performance opportunities and
can learn for fun or take it more seriously and do exams.
More information is available at
www.baerpianostudio.com.au Ring 8251 4765 to book your
place.
Thank you,
Yvette Baer
