YEAR 6/7 AQUATICS
Over the last two weeks, the Year 6 and Year 7 students have all attended a
day of Aquatics at West Lakes. It was a really fun day with lots of interesting
activities, like sailing, snorkelling, kayaking and surfing. We learnt about
water safety rules for the beach, the lake and in a boat.
There were three important acronyms to remember:
WET: Check the Weather, have the right Equipment, Take someone with you
and Tell someone where you are going.
HELP: Check for Hazards, identify safe Entrances and emergency Exits, use
Landmarks to check your position, make a Plan for safety.
STAY: Signal for help, stick Together, be Aware and Alert, stay with Your boat
and Your equipment.
Everyone enjoyed themselves and learnt something new, and we are very
grateful for the opportunity to participate in such a wonderful day out!

THE BEST PART OF ME
Inspired by award winning photographer, Wendy Ewald, and
author of “The Best Part of Me” picture book, the Year 5
students in L7 engaged in powerful discussions about body
image, self-esteem and diversity. Students responses were
honest, at times humorous, but also deeply moving and
personal. It became an empowering exercise to express
gratitude for our own bodies and their intricate, functional
aspects of particular body parts but at the same time also a
touching reminder of the beauty within and worthiness of us
all.
Small excerpts from student work:
“My heart helps me to be considerate.” - Anon
“My eyes help me see the beautiful world.” - Anon
“My mouth can give a smile to someone in need or send out
comforting words.” -Anon
“My heart pumps blood to my entire body. I love my heart and
my heart loves me.” - Anon
“I really like my ears so I can talk to my friends and family. I will
always be able to listen and to help sort out problems.” - Anon

Parking Around Schools –
No Stopping versus No Parking
No Stopping Drivers must NOT STOP during indicated times for any reason in an area marked No Stopping,
No Standing, as a Bike Lane or a Bus Zone or anywhere marked with a solid yellow line.
No Parking Some schools have drop of and pick up
(kiss n drop, kiss and ride, pick up/drop of)
zones.
These are No Parking Zones during certain
times that can be used for immediate
drop of and pick up of passengers if these
conditions are adhered to:
• The driver must always remain within 3
metres of the vehicle
• Drivers are only permitted to stop for 2
minutes to drop and pick up passengers
• No Parking is only for the times indicated
and outside of that time it is unrestricted
parking unless otherwise indicated
• In the afternoons, arrive after the bell
has gone and allow time for your child to
reach the No Parking Zone. If your child is
not waiting to be collected DO NOT STOP,
instead continue to circulate around and
approach the No Parking Zone again.
• If you need to walk your child into school
then you must park elsewhere.
“No Parking” Zones provide a
safe place for children to be
dropped of and picked up
and allow for high turnover of
vehicles. It works, if everyone
follows the rules and does the
right thing.
