Budget 2010Stamp Duty

Probably the most commented item in the Chancellor's lastbudget before the election was the measure giving stampduty relief to first time buyers who will be exempt from payingthe 1% stamp duty on properties up to £250,000 - amaximum saving of £2,500- for the next two years.

To qualify as a first time buyer HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC)have stated that the buyer (or all buyers in the case of a jointpurchase) must not at any time owned a property anywherein the world. The property must also be the buyer's main oronly home thereby excluding buy-to-let investors. In additionindividuals who have previously been gifted or inherited aproperty cannot be considered first time buyers and aretherefore also excluded from the relief.

Commentators are of the opinion the relief is hard to policeas the onus is on the buyer to declare that they have notpreviously owned property. HMRC will issue penalties for afalse declarations.

Stowmarket Operatic &Dramatic Society

Stowmarket Operatic & Dramatic Society is pleased toannounce that - like the Phoenix rising from the ashes - MrCinders is about to light up the Regal stage at last and"Spread a Little Happiness" across the area.

Originally cast last July, planned forDecember, postponeddue to the arsonattack on the theatreand partially recast notonce but three timeswhen first one of thebrothers then the malelead had to be recastdue to family

commitments and one of the replacements had to leavedue to revised work conditions, the current cast pluschoreographer Keely Taylor and Musical Director Kate Jewellhave worked extremely hard under the direction of Anne Lilleyto keep the show on the road.

As can be guessed from the title the story is a role reversal ofthe original Cinderella where the adopted son Jim (MattBendall - in the third part he has learned) is put upon by hisAunt, Lady Agatha Lancaster (Pauline Taylor) and her two foppish sons, Lumley (Michael Jewell) and Guy (Jon Wray -the second part he had learned). His Uncle, Sir George justwants a quiet life!

A series of adventures, mishaps and misunderstandings followbut in the end all three young men get their girls, Jill (JoChadwick), Minerva (Karen Long) and Phyllis (Lynda Phillips)and all ends happily.

One interesting fact to emerge is that Clifford Gray the com-poser is buried in Ipswich Old Cemetery. His memorial bearsthe inscription 'Spread a Little Happiness' which is the title ofone of the songs from the show. Do come along to theRegal Theatre, Stowmarket (Box Office 01449 612825)between Tuesday May 4th and Friday May 7th at 7.30 or onSaturday May 8th at 2.30 or 7.30 and let Mr Cinders 'Spreada Little Happiness' for you.

Time passes so quickly it is hard to believe that the CharityShop in the High Street has now been open for more than ayear!

The Easter Bunny Chocolate Bingo held on March 13th wasonce again a great success. Many thanks to all who cameand supported us. We raised just over £1500 at this eventwhich is a great addition to our much needed funds. We willbe holding another Bingo evening later this year with a different theme so watch out for our notices in this Newsletter.

On 18th May Bramford Golf Club are holding a fund raisingevent for us. In the evening they will be holding an auction ofsporting memorabilia to help raise funds. If anyone has any-thing they could donate for the auction it would really beappreciated.

We are constantly amazed at the quality and diversity of thedonations that we receive in our Charity shop. As a children'sCharity we are particularly pleased at the large selection ofchildren's toys and clothes we are able to offer. Whatever youare looking for whether it is a book, a piece of jewellery, anold 78 or even a brand new evening dress it always pays todrop in and see us as our stock changes on a daily basis.

As the visit of the children approaches again this year we areonce more appealing for donations of clothes and toys. These children really do arrive with nothing except the clothesthey travel in so if anyone has anything that they coulddonate to these children 21 girls and 3 boys, all aged 8 , wewould be very grateful. Summer and Winter clothes areappreciated as although they visit us in the summer theyreturn home to winters that often are as cold as minus 30 !

Donations can be dropped at the Charity Shop in NeedhamMarket High Street (please state they are for the children) orcall me on 01449 760343 if you need to arrange a collection.

vocals, which epitomised her performances on the X Factor(along with her bare feet), infuse with the poppy-electroverses and a rocked-up chorus, forming something thatsounds refreshing, yet oddly familiar.

While the beeping noise at the start may sound like a lift dooris going to close in front of you, the subject matter - "I'm onlygonna let you die once" - alludes to the possibility that thismight instead represent a life support machine. This chorusline is also annoyingly catchy - you'll be humming it for daysafter hearing it just a couple of days.

Single ReviewDiana Vickers - Once (Out 19th April)

I don't know about you, but I findit really quite difficult keeping upwith the reality TV conveyor belt.Several times a year, the smallscreen make stars out of ordinarypeople who think they can sing, only for them to be dumped intothe pit of rejection several weekslater. Very few manage toclamber out and carve a careerout of it.

Diana Vickers is the latest XFactor starlet who's trying to makea go of it - she made thesemi-finals in the same series thatgave us Alexandra Burke and JLS.Her debut single 'Once' is writtenby the multi award-winning andamusingly-named Eg White, apartnership that I think will give hera great chance ofovershadowing her better-knownrivals.

'Once' is very much unlikeanything in the charts at themoment - her trademark breathy
