9. Duplicate the row of boxes to create a new row You’ll follow a similar process as the last step, but this time you’ll do it with lots of objects selected.

Օ Select all of the 6 frames you just created Օ Hold down Option and Drag the boxes DOWN to create a second row. Օ Like before, keep 4 little grid spaces between the rows (that’s 1/2”) Օ If you don’t get it right in one go, just UNDO and try it again!

TIP: To constrain your movement (either vertically or horizontally) as you drag, hold down both Option and Shift at the same time when you drag.

10. Create more rows automatically Same process as step 8. Transform Sequence.

Օ To repeat the copy and move process, go to: Object Menu > Transform Again

11. Turn off the Grid view The grid can be very helpful during placement, but it can make it hard to see what your page really looks like!

12. Open Adobe Bridge Bridge is a tool that allows you to view and manipulate numerous image files at once. You can rename a batch of photos, view their information, and bring them into other adobe programs.

13. To open up a folder of images in Bridge Օ You can use the Folders window to navigate to a folder Օ double-click the folder that contains your images.

14. The EASIER way to open a folder of images Օ Find the folder on your hard drive Օ Drag the folder onto the Bridge icon in your dock.

15. Renaming your images It can be helpful to name your images so they are distinct from the other million images you have in your computer. Here’s how you can use bridge to do it.

Օ select all of the images in the main image window that you would like to rename.

Օ go to Tools menu > Batch rename Օ You can add a number of elements that Bridge will use to name the files. This can include text, the date, a sequence number, etc. In this case try Text and Sequence Number

16. Use Bridge to drop images into InDesign You can easily drag and drop images from Bridge into InDesign

Օ First organize your windows so you can see Bridge and Indesign at the same time. This usually means resizing the windows a bit, playing with the zoom of your windows, etc.

Օ Click on a photo in Bridge and drag and drop it onto one of your Frames. Notice that they are bigger than the frame!

Օ Drag a couple more images into frames in your document.17. Images in InDesign

Images are handled differently in Indesign than Illustrator. By default each image comes with a mask. This is to allow you to easily crop your images in your layout. Every image has a frame and the content inside the frame.

18. Moving an image around inside its frame There are a few ways to do this. Ultimately it means modifying the contents of the frame (the image placed within) rather than the frame itself. Here are two methods:1. With the black arrow selection tool , mouse over the image

and look for the double circle in the middle of the image. Drag it and you’ll see your image move within its frame.

2. Use the white arrow selection tool and drag within the image. using the white arrow means working with the content (the image) rather than the container (the frame).

19. Resizing an image within its frame with the image buttons There are many ways to alter the content within a frame. Here is an easy technique to scale the content.Image fitting buttons. Look for these in the Control Strip ai the top of the screen. When you have the image selected, clicling on these buttons will scale the image or the frame.

20. Use the scale tool to resize an image in its frame You can also select the content inside a frame and resize it using the scale tool

Օ select the image with the white arrow tool Օ use the scale tool. Օ Be sure to hold down shift to constrain the proportions!

22. Rotating an image inside its frame - rotate tool Sometimes you want to change the angle of an image inside a frame

Օ Select the image with the white arrow Օ Use the rotate tool in the tool palette to change the angle of the image.

23. Other ways to rotating an image inside its frame Օ If your track pad supports it, you can use two fingered twisting gestures to rotate.

Օ There is also a numeric rotation field in the control strip at the top of the screen.

24. Replacing photos If you drag a new photo onto a frame that already has an image, the new photo will actually inherit any scaling, placement and rotation that you applied to the previous image!

25. The normal but boring way to add an image to a frame. I’m obligated to also tell you this way to place images. It’s good for a single image but gets tiresome if you have to place a whole bunch or if you want to make decisions visually as you add your images.

Օ Select the frame Օ go to File Menu > Place (or Mac: Command-D / Windows: Control-D

Օ Locate your image and click “Open.”

26. Export a PDF of your grid To print your file from the plotter you will need to export a PDF.

Օ Save your file. Hopefully you’ve already done this a number of times, but do it again

Օ go to File Menu > Export > PDF Օ Choose Adobe PDF (print) Օ In the Export settings, choose High Quality Print This will result in a manageable file size and a high quality image.

Օ Add crop Marks to your image. This will give you a visual guide to you can trim your print to 30 X 30. Click Marks and Bleeds in the left hand panel, then click Crop Marks in the main window.courtesyJohnRoach
