The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF) and the New YorkState Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) offer the second year of the 2005 and 2006Stormwater Management Program series.

WHY ATTEND?On January 8, 2003, New York State issued new regulations onstormwater management as a result of US-EPA mandates. Youand other professionals involved in water resource issues needto understand these new Phase II regulations for constructionactivities and designated municipalities in order to maintaincompliance. These Stormwater Management courses reviewand explain the new regulations, teach technical andcompliance techniques, and prepare you for your CPESC/CPSWQ qualification exam. COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
BUF-001: Site Planning and Design for Erosion & SedimentControlProperly prepared erosion and sediment control plans are one ofthe most critical components of a Stormwater Pollution PreventionPlan (SWPPP). This two-day course will teach consultingengineers, landscape architects, resource specialists, codeenforcement officers, and others who prepare or review theseplans to: know the rules & regulations, evaluate the site for waterquality risk, compute soil loss and runoff volumes, select anddesign appropriate practices, and learn how to install and inspectE&S control measures.
A field exercise is planned for the course and participants willreceive the New York Standards and Specifications for Erosion andSediment Control. A calculator and engineer’s scale is neededfor the course.

BUF-003: Stormwater Management Practice (SMP) DesignIn order to achieve new New York State Standards for water qualityprotection and stormwater discharge control from developmentsites, it is necessary that all practices be properly designed. Inthis course, consulting engineers, landscape architects, resourcespecialists, and others who design or review SWPPPs will learn:the role of the five major SMP categories, the specific attributesrequired for each SMP, to design specific SMPs such as ponds,bioretention, sand filters, swales and infiltration practices toprovide construction specifications, inspection, and O&Mrequirements for the designs.
Course materials include the New York Stormwater Design Manualand course handouts and problems. A scale and calculator arenecessary for the course.
