QAV thrive in a customer-facing industry and always provide creative, professional and reliable audio- visual (AV) services. The Cambridgeshire-based company has grown continually over the years and in 2019 they expanded their storage and workspace by building a new industrial unit in Ely. A new power supply was required and Stormport were recommended by a previous client, the owner of the business park. QAV and their appointed contractors contacted Stormport for a competitive quotation and proposal for the new supply. The Challenge Once we had ascertained the size of the electrical loadings required, Stormport began the process of liaising with the statutory Distribution Network Operator, UK Power Networks (UKPN). Initially, UKPN suggested that due to the larger electrical demand on the network caused by QAV’s expansion, a substation upgrade would be required. Fortunately, our engineers challenged this outcome and we managed to secure a more favourable low voltage Point of Connection saving them considerable costs and offering them an efficient alternative. The Solution It was agreed that, instead of a substation upgrade, UKPN would undertake network jointing in the area and they came back with a different Point of Connection. From this, Stormport installed a bulk low voltage (LV) supply to a large external kiosk on site, this supplied a Building Network Operator (BNO) network which would connect the units internally. Stormport designed the cable route and this was approved by UKPN. A wayleave was also required for cable to be laid across third party land to supply the site, Stormport facilitated this process and provided all accompanying trenching and civils work. UKPN performed the network shutdown after 100 metres of 300mm LV CNE cable was laid to site and the kiosk was installed. The Overview

Quality in Audio Visual (QAV) Limited are a highly regarded events and multimedia specialist who started in 2001. QAV thrive in a customer-facing industry and always provide creative, professional and reliable audio-visual (AV) services.

The Challenge

Once we had ascertained the size of the electrical loadings required, Stormport began the process of liaising with the statutory Distribution Network Operator, UK Power Networks (UKPN).

The Solution

It was agreed that, instead of a substation upgrade, UKPN would undertake network jointing in the area and they came back with a different Point of Connection.

The Results

Once the unit had a BNO network created within it QAV were able to supply the unit and they had a sufficient power supply. All work was completed on schedule and the unit has since been moved into. Stormport were able to add real value to this project by saving QAV considerable financial costs as our experienced engineers were able to anticipate issues on the network and find cost-effective alternatives

Our new development represented unique challenges in terms of coordination that the principle contractor was not initially aware of. Stormport identified the changes required and assisted in resolving the changes identified. Despite the unexpected challenges, working together with the other contractors, the project was completed in a professional manner and on schedule.
