One of these options is the ability to store static GNSS observations directly to a SD memory card in the GS receiver. There are options for storing either the Leica MDB format or RINEX formatted data files. Each of these options for recording static data requires a license key to activate these capabilities. This guide will provide the steps needed to start a static observation session with a single CS controller and a GS receiver operating as an RTK base. In this example the GS receiver that will be used as a RTK base has already been configured for transmitting the needed RTK corrections. The options shown here are required to configure the GS receiver to collect static data while operating in base mode. The following Figures A and B show an example of the LED configuration for the GS receivers when a formatted SD card is inserted and ready to record data. When the SD card is inserted into the receiver the LED next to the SD card icon will turn solid green. This means the card is recognized and available for data recording. The Viva system provides many options that improve on needed hardware in the field. One of

these options is the ability to store static GNSS observations directly to a SD memory card in the

GS receiver. There are options for storing either the Leica MDB format or RINEX formatted data

files. Each of these options for recording static data requires a license key to activate these

capabilities. This guide will provide the steps needed to start a static observation session with a

single CS controller and a GS receiver operating as an RTK base.

In this example the GS receiver that will be used as a RTK base has already been configured for

Inserting the SD Card into the GS Receiver

The SD card that will store the GNSS observation should be placed in the GS receiver. The

following Figures A and B show an example of the LED configuration for the GS receivers when

a formatted SD card is inserted and ready to record data. When the SD card is inserted into the

receiver the LED next to the SD card icon will turn solid green. This means the card is

recognized and available for data recording.

Static Observation Recording Settings for a GS Receiver

These are the needed settings for the GS RTK base to record static data:

In the Logging GPS Base Data screen select the box next to Log data for post-processing and

the options will be viewable. In the Rate: field choose the epoch interval you wish to record

observations. In the Data type: field you can choose either Leica format (MDB) or RINEX if you

have the needed options activated on the GS receiver. In this example we will be logging data

in Leica format (MDB) to import the static data into Leica Geo Office (LGO) for processing.

Completing RTK Base Setup

To start the RTK base with raw data logging, simply choose the Go to Work! icon from the main

menu.

Next choose the icon for the method of choosing the base coordinate. In this example we are

setting up the receiver over a known point. For this options choose Over known point

You can now enter the Antenna Height, and RTK base antenna definition … and then select F1

(Next) function key.

No you are prompted to select the coordinates of the control point you have placed the RTK

base receiver. Select the correct Point ID: and check your coordinates. Select F1 (Next) and the

receiver will accept the coordinates and start to transmit RTK corrections and log static raw

data.

Viva SmartWorx will know display the following message:

This message gives the user the option to stay connected to the base receiver or to switch over

to the rover receiver. If you are using a Bluetooth connection you can switch over to the Rover

mode by selecting F1 (Rover). If you have your CS controller connected to the base receiver by

the use of a GEV237 or a GEV234 cable, remove the cable connection first and then select F1

(Rover).

Return to Rover Mode

When you choose to switch to the rover mode the CS controller will disconnect from the GS

base receiver. You will receive the message “Connection to GS sensor lost” when the system

disconnects from the GS base receiver and the system will change to the Rover mode menu,

Check the GS Base Receiver for Static Data Logging

Before you leave the GS Base receiver, observe that the SD card is recording the raw data. The

LED for the SD card will blink green as shown in Figures C and D when the SD card is recording

data.

Please do not forget about the imaging capabilities of SmartWorx. Stop and take a picture(s)

and assign it to you control point in the database

Saving the Static Survey Data File and Ending the Static Session

When you have collected static data for the set time needed and you are ready to shut down

the GS Base receiver… simply turn off the GS receiver. There is no need to reconnect to the GS

receiver with the CS controller. The file is closed and saved when the receiver is in the process

of powering down from operation.

Importing the GNSS Data in Leica Geo Office

So, now you have completed your field work and are ready to process the static data in Leica

Geo Office (LGO). The static data for the GS Base Receiver is on the SD card used in the GS

Base Receiver.

The GNSS raw data is located under the \DBX directory of the SD card used in the GS base

receiver.

Please note that there are no individual job folders kept on the SD card for the job you were

working in while in the field. Each GNSS raw data file (.m00) will be named with the last four

digits of the serial number of the GS unit, the data, and time of file creation. In the example

shown the last four digits of the serial number for the GS receiver is 9685, the job was created

on August 7, and was created at 5:21:43 pm. So the file name is 9685_0807_172143.m00

To complete the data download, please copy the (.m00) file from the SD card and place it on

your local hard drive or network server

Next, create a project as you would normally in LGO. When you import the GNSS raw data into

the LGO project for the static session observations you will need to highlight the name that for

the (.m00) file from the base receiver.

Once the raw data has been imported you can see that the point name, antennae setup, height,

and code are all imported into the LGO project for the observed point. You can also right

mouse-click on the Point ID and choose Properties… to observe the information from the static

session.
