I learned that new accounting machines could help to reduce the time formidably to give the necessary information in hours instead of weeks. I learned the value of counter footage and how, in the chain store operation, each foot of counter space had to pay wages, rent, overhead expenses and profit. There could be no blind spots in so far as goods are concerned. This meant a much more exhaustive study of the goods we were selling and the needs of the public.
